Had the opportunity to
get up close & personal with NZ 30549 which was atthe Frankton Thunder 2017 event – March 4
[SUP]
th

& 5th.
A couple of things I noticed that stood out – the castingnumber on the mantlet, below the telescope cover –
–
The bulge under the mantlet at the bottom of the turret –
- this later pic is the Baldwin M41 - the bulge is easier to see in mono chrome.
‘This Side Out’ marking on the sprockets –
The cast turret rear beneath the bustle –
The asymmetry of the LHS & RHS turret beneath the bustle–
The cast final drive housings on the rear plate –
- which is a detail I forgot to mention above - the standard M41 final drives are welded
You might like to consider early construction M41's as the equivalent of Sherman M4A1's with extensive use of castings, however in the case of the M41, it's a lot more subtle.
