Since you picked Blazing Saddles my father's foster father (He was orphaned in 1925 and taken in as a field hand) actually did this years before Mel Brooks put it in his movie. He hit a 20 year old mule for biting him on shoulder and knocked it unconscious for 4 hours, he told my dad to watch the mule and let him know when it came to. Dad was scarred spitless and didn't move a muscle. The old man broke the mule's jaw in 3 places his arm in two places. The same vet set the arm and the jaw. The mule never bit anyone again. It was at that moment my father learn to fear and respect his foster father, mostly just fear him!
