I have no gyro operating in the first 10-15 flights of any airplane I fly. You need to make sure that everything is trimmed and balanced to perfection without a gyro. This includes trim and balance for aerobatic maneuvers.

It takes another 8-10 flights to tune the gyro to my liking. The automatic, "single flight" setup is only a starting place on the iGyro for me.

Four out of my five turbine jets have gyros and they help mainly with windy conditions. But there is a marked increase in stability on slow landings on two of my planes, my 89" P51 Mustang (prop) and my twin turbine 100" Pilot G650 Gulfstream. Wind or not the gyro helps on the slower landings - is almost a must for shorter runways on these two planes.

My BVM 1:6 F16 does not "need" a gyro but people have noticed it is more stable looking in flight than other people's warbirds without gyros.
