The comment which begins, " I would think..." means that this is someone speculating. No real world experience. Wait until he tests his hypothesis and proceed from there.
In the meantime, follow Mr. Crump's suggestion. It's very common and works.
Odd. The pads on my Great Planes balancing machine were larger than my fingertips. Now I have small hands but not that small. Seems like advice that starts out like this is what is really "unacceptable".
