I'll say this for the French, they don't just complain and put up with higher prices and lower wages, once they've been pushed far enough, they take to the streets and governments have been made to listen. Mr Macron has apparently changed his mind about increasing fuel prices in 2019 so the demonstartions appear to have worked.

The previous government under President Hollande introduced a law which made it compulsory for all French motorists to keep florescent yellow waistcoats or "vests," "les gilets jaune," in their cars so that in the event of a breakdown they would be more conspicuous to other road users. How ironic that the protestors have adopted the gilet jaune as their own uniform!

In my little corner of rural France, some drivers leave a rolled up yellow waistcoat on the dashboard of their cars to show their support.
