Old thread but, The hole should help. Better still, move tge vent to the cam chamber if possible and plug the rear vent. I always run 2% castor as bolsters the synthetic providing extreme pressure qualities that synthetics alone
do not provide. The main objection some folks have with castor is sticking or gumming at times. It does not take much castor to get the barrier protection. At 2% TO 5% or even a bit more, gumming is not a problem.
If there is no oil there, of course, the cam will probably turn colors and wear out quickly as mentioned. Not enough oil or oil that doesn't provide higher levels of barrier film, it may take proportionally longer. It is all relative. Klotz® rates their Super Techniplate® anti-wear qualities at 20% better than the Original Techniplate®. The difference is, Super Techniplate® has castor added. Same oil, with castor, 20% better film strength.
I also pack the rocker boxes of Saitos with Bel-Ray® synthetic grease. No sticking or wear problems there! (Not needed with YS as they lubricate all areas very well!)
