Default Single cell vs 5 cell on board ignition pack

In the process of (re)setting up an on-board ignition for an inverted Magnum 4 stroke.
Since the old Fox idlebar plug gave up the ghost, it's been prone to quitting at low idle. Had an on-board glow hooked up previously for the original engine, an OS 61FX and it worked great. Will see if this fixes the Magnum problem.
Anyway, my question is: Which would be better (or would there be any difference besides weight) between a single NiMH "C" cell rated at 3000mAh and, say, five "AA" cells in paralled rated at 600 mAh each?

The "system" would be used for initial start and rigged to come on at low idle. Off above, say 1/4 throttle, if that makes a difference.
TIA, G42
