Default New to electrics

I was given one of the new Airtronics VG6000 but this one has the 2 little servos and a speed controller with cutoff I was wondering what powers the servos and reciever does the same battery that runs the motor also run the electronics? I was also given a Challenger 400 electric aerobatic plane and thought that I would use the parts from the radio in it but when I opened the radio box it has 2 power switches one that is like my glow planes and this little one connected to the speed controller. It also says to plug the speed controller into CH 3 so I'm confused does this reciever take power in thru CH 3 to power everything else or do I still need another battery pack and use the switch that looks like what I use on glow planes? I've wanted to get into electric power for a while now but no one I know flies them so info has been hard to find.
