Is this legal to do ?
If so, I would look at electric. Too many problems with the possibility of fuel line fouling with the seas you may have to transverse. Are there big waves where you wish to do this? If not then you can do either.
I think that like Umi mentioned your important concern is how to drop the line. And I willl bring up another concern, make sure you have a transmitter/radio that can accomidate that range.
