Well if the nylon one break or wear out your in the same boat(waiting for replacements that is)
That's odd, the Second speed pinion gear breaks when you get on the throttle after coming to a quick stop ad back on the gas quick?
Sounds like the Cam in the 2speed isn't disingaging fast enough.
Sounds like your getting on the throttle with it still in 2nd gear and the torque is just too much for it.
It could have dirt or something inside, metal shaving? Some crap? Rust? not letting it disingauge
Take it apart and clean and Lube the 2 speed assembly
If it's all clean and smooth, try to tighten the cam spring as tight as you can, this will put more tension on it to pop back into 1st gear faster.
