I know that the 7Cs method of programming is somewhat similar to the 9C - it uses a rotating dial and two keys to scroll through/select/change parameters. That said, my 9C is VERY easy to program.
I am not sure about the 7C's capability as far as helis is concerned. I know that the 9C is a capable heli radio but hopefully someone with a little better knowledge of the 7C will help out here.
