Home-Made Transmitter Stand
My old plastic stand finally broke and I did not find a commercially available stand that I
liked. I worked out the design by making two mock-ups using Fome-Core board. This is
easy to cut and can be glued quickly with a hot glue gun. I use a mini-gun which cost
$4.00. The joints can be disassembled using a heat gun. The mockups gave me the
final dimensions as I fitted them to the transmitter and showed up unforseen problems
such as poor resistance to tipping forward.
My stand is made of scrap 1/4" 3-ply wood. It is cheap and easy to cut and sand. The
joints were made with Tite-Bond glue on the inner surfaces plus medium CyA on the
outside of the joints to secure the parts while the Tite-Bond was drying. Additonally some
5/8" brads were installed. This was a little tricky as it was necessary to drill to avoid
splitting the wood. Those with more carpentry experience than I have will not have a
problem. The upright panel is 8" wide by 7.5" high and the shelf is 3" deep. The sides
are 30-60-90 triangles. Feet were added to prevent tipping forward and they are 1/4" by
1-1/8" stripping. Another piece of stripping went on the back to brace the sides. The
finished stand is quite stable. The photos show the stand before paint is applied.
