I have a simple and easy solution to the tail skid on rugs problem. I found a small plastic bead (8mm) in my wife's sewing basket. I drilled half way
through the existing hole so that it would slide over the skid rod. A touch
of RTV keeps it there without making it permanent. No more hangups
and it raises the blade another 4mm.
