those little P40s can be pigs, I'll build a big one next year, 94" glass fuz, foam core wings AUW is about 24lbs on those and put a G62 in the nose and they really perform well!
should not be that heavy
i have a 90" spitfire, it is 22lbs, all built up with glass covering and paint
my P51 is 82" glass fuz, built up and glassed wings - 20 lbs
learn glassing technique, it is not hard and you will get light strong planes
