If you do have metal to metal contact, I would correct that. That is a tough call. If you can find it on the ground with range testing, it would be best to find the problem. If not, the PCM may do just that, fix or mask the problem. Be sure and do a good range test either way, with the engine running. Here is some good information on range testing.
