Default Warped Aileron - 3dhs Edge 41

My 3dhs Edge 41" arrived, but the left aileron is severely warped.

Any tips on how to straighten it? (3dhs is conveniently closed for a month, so I can't hassle them for a new one).

Thanks

Use a heating iron, set around 250, and heat both sides of the covering material , and gently twist the warp out . Works every time. Freddy

You really have to work the iorn to get a twist out like that. It can be done but it take alot of time. Did you glue the aileron in yet? If you need check out RCgroups in the 41 edge thread and se if anyone there has an extra one. There are a few guys over at RC groups that should be able to help you. Like Horton or The KM both work for 3DHS.(I would ask them first)

Thanks mycarisaser.

Good idea to post on RC Groups to see what help is available. I haven't glued the aileron in yet, so hopefully someone has a spare.

Thanks!

here's 2 photo's, one with a twist, and 1 without. It can be taken out very easly. Maybe you need another pair of hands to help you hold the aileron. You need to heat both sides, up and down the twist, and it will come out with patience. Freddy

Hey Freddy,

Thanks again. I managed to get most of the twist out.

It took a lot more heat that I thought - I was reluctant to apply that much heat to the covering, but I guess it needed it!

Hopefully she'll fly straight!

I find it helpful when doing this to twist the part more than it needs to correct the warp. Then while holding the twist, use the iron or heat gun to re-shrink the covering. The excess twist will take care of the "set" the wood has taken. After a while the wood will relax (a week or two) and the twist may appear in the opposite direction. I've only had this happen once.

It might take a couple of tries but I've never had this fail on a monokoted wing.
