Hey Levi, Errol and Steve, if you really want to see how a built up wing should be done lightweight and super strong you should consider getting one of these kits from Todds models. The whole weight of the airframe before covering was only 4.7 oz.
From what I could tell today the built up wing flew well. I still like my 3DX it just that they both fly very well. Mike

My 3DX ended up with a AUW of 13ounces with the GWS motor and a 3Cell Kokam 1500.
I must have got the wrong CF tubes from Flyem High because mine twists under torque from the motor. I ended up reapplying the Epoxy near the nose and eventually even used extra depron on each side of the wood block to stop the twisting.

None the less, what a lot of fun to fly.

I recon I will try to build a 36inch Extra next. It looks like it has the bracing that you guys have added to your 3DXs in the plans. This time I will build it light.

another way of attaching them is toget a 10mm wide by 3mm deep peice balsa and attach about 7 carbon fibre rovings (threads from a carbon fibre sheet) with a CA to bothe ends of the peice of wood. router out a grove the same size as the wood and glue the peice of wood in with the carbon rovings with some laminating resisn. i used this system with my 3DX and it turned out liter than with tubes but much stronger. this is the system we use with our pattern models.
