RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
The Katana is one of those planes where there are more models than actual planes. I think, like the Turbo Raven, only one full scale Katana S ever flew.
Pictures of it are few and far between. I'm sure someone could post 3 view pictures of a model, however...
Heck, if nothing else, look at the Hangar 9 Funtana S and go from that...

I went to work on it after comming accross some pictures on some forign website. It is all finished and the plans are done and uploaded to the website for more free downloading (www.3DFoamy.com) If you start building one, (or any of the other plans for that matter) start a thread on it and let us know what you think...

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
The Katana S is famous for some big honkin' wing fairings. These are missing from the 40 size Funtana due to cost savings, but all other versions of the Katana and Funtana have them.

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
Yup... I was a little lazy and didn't think I could squeez the wing with fairings in on a sheet of Depron for the laser cutting, but I reworked it and just got it to fit. It looks a whole lot better. I also angled the counterbalance on the rudder to allow a little more rudder area (Thats for you Rotten)
The new version with th fairings is already on the website for anyone downloading it...
Tail Twister... Thanks for the motivation!

Hi 3D_Foamy
These 3D park flyers look like a lot of fun. What I would like to know is how long will a
GWS 350D last for running off a 3cell li-poly? Would a heat sink help? do guys use heat sinks?
I prefer not to go brushless at the moment as the cost to high.
Thanks Anthony

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
I just put a himax 5400 brushless motor in my 3DX because I got tired of replacing my GWS 350C motors. I've been through 5 of them within the last month. I've burnt one up in one 10-15 minute flight before and then I've gotten several 10-15 minute flights before. Just depends on how you fly. I'm using a 3cell li-poly. You'd probably be better off going ahead and buying a brushless motor now instead of the GWS motors. In the long run you'll save money not having to replace the GWS's.

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
try this krazy flyr http://www.depronusa.com/
What is the Castle Creations Pheonix 25 controller like? I am guessing the 10Amp version
would by too small. I like the look of the CCP 25 controller as it can be programmed for most battery types and sizes and there is a model shop here that sells them for only $159.
Does the GWS gear box need a great deal of modifiying for the brushless motors?

Just wondering if there is anyone on here besides myself that purchased this Foamy Turbo Raven kit directly form 3D_Foamy? If so, have you received your kit yet?

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
Gary,
My internet has been down for almost 2 weeks, and I have not gotten anyones e-mails..... []
I was waiting on some parts to get the kits out, and they just arrived. I have been swamped in School, and just got the kits cut out last night.... So all of you that have kits on order should be seeing them in the next week or so.
I am a bit behind where I wanted to be.... But quality is first, so pardon the delays...
Just for clarification.... 3DFoamy.com is not really a business... It is just part of my love for the R/C Hobby, and I don't rely on it as a source of income.... (Thats why a kit is only $29) The downside of the deal is that it has to come after my family and school obligations... I am just returning to school at Eastern Washington University after 4 years of being "not in school", and it is taking a TON of study time to keep up with everything. I am a Biology Major heading for Dental school, so grades are all so importiant!
However, I am spending all my free time getting your planes together. I hope you can understand the slow start in light of my circumstances....
Have fun!!!

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
Hey Levi,
I have already downloaded the plans fopr this model and I look forward to building it.. I do have a question though... Some of the drawings shown show a pretty dramatic sweep of the wings... Your Avatar doesnt show much sweep and there is not much sweep in some of the plans.. Is this the differeance between the Raven and the Turbo Raven?... or is this just neccessary to get enough wing area to fly?
Myron

RE: Turbo Raven 3D Construction
Heres the scoop...
The Raven was built for Wayne Handley by Zivco. It is basically a suped up Edge 540, but a 2 place version. So the wing is straight like an edge....
The Turbo Raven was built later for Wayne by a specialty company and was based on the high performance G 202 Composite hombuilt. It has the opposite wing design, straight trailing edge...
Both of the planes the I sell are dirived directly from the 3 view drawings used in the aircrafts design fase. The companies were very excited about these little planes I made, and were very helpful in supplying all the info I needed.
The cool thing about all the plans I designed, is that they are true to the real aircraft. This makes each plane have different capabilities, attitudes, and style. You can definatly tell a difference between the planes in the air. It makes it nice since everyone has their own preferences...
Hope this helps!
(Avitar is the original Raven)
