Default 3DX: newbie to electrics and I want to know what I need

I'm getting things prepared to build a 3DX. But I'm not 100% sure what I need to get this thing flying. Here is what I got so far:

Motor: Himax 2015-4100
Gearbox: GWS 6.6:1
Speed Controller: Castel Creations Pheonix 25
Servos: 4 HS-55 or HS-50
Battery: not quite sure, would like some help on this one

I read somewhere for the Himax motor used with the GWS gearbox, that you have to have an adapter plate. Is that right? Any other information would very helpful. And also a few websites if you know any.

Thanks

On the gearbox you can use the adapter available from bishop power products, or just grind a little off the ears or the gear box and add orings on the motor body for support. I use the hs 55s but am sure the 50s would be fine too. the motor and speed controll look right( use 12x6 gws prop). For the battery get a lithium polymer 3s 1320 from Thunderpower or 3s 1200 from etec.

look at the bottom of this web page for the exact spacer ring you need:

your setup is good, I used E-tech 1200 maH 3s1p li-poly packs.
they work great, here is a link:

let me know if you need any further assistance ... good luck, you will love the 3DX!

What is the best charger I could use with the lipo batteries? What is the best I could get for the least money?

I got the Hobbico MKII Quick Field Charger. It works great, can charge 2 li-polys ato once,
and the best part ... $50.00.

Note: you want to make sure you don't charge abouve 1C (if the li-poly is 1200 maH you
don't want to charge it more than 1.2 a ..... the Hobbico MKII say not above 1 a for li-polys
so your not going that much slower) It takes me about 70 min to charge my 1200 maH
e-techs from being empty.

Etec 1200 pack and the mk11 charger are definitely the way to go. That's the same setup I have in my 3dx. Awesome power and hang time.
