My Latest Airplane
Attached are some pictures of my latest airplane. I wanted a building project, something that looked somewhat scale, but was 3D capable. I started by using the plastic parts from a Guillows Sopwith camel, and the wing from a Mountain Models SwitchBack 3D. Then I scratched built the rest around these. Of course I borrowed a lot of Mountain Models construction techniques to keep it strong and light.
Here are the specs:
Length 28"
Wing Span 32"
Wing Area 272 (with ailerons)
14.3 oz weight
Himax 2015/4100 6:1 Geared
Castle Creations Pheonix 10
4 Hitec HS-55
Electron 6 receiver
Thunder Power 3cell 1320
SE Sailplane wheels
Overall I am rather pleased with the result. I have to stare at it for about a week, before I am going to fly this baby. It is a ritual.

RE: My Latest Airplane
I got enough guts to fly it today. Very Nice! This is basicly the same setup I had in a Switch Back 3D but the Switch Back was only 12.8 oz. The extra weight in this one is due to 3 things:
1 more HS-55
heavier covering (I wanted the strength)
heavier wheels
It ended up 1.5 ounces more. Boy, can you notice the difference flying. Some of this lack of zip may be due to the larger front cowl, but this one is really rock stable and flys very scale like. It looks great on low passes, but I lost my vertical, so now I am going to switch from the 11X6 to the 12X6 prop and get 20 oz of thrust, that should liven things up a bit.
