E-flite Ultimate....the new one
Have any of you flown the new E-flite Ultimate.
The one with the full fuselage, not the profile one.
The kit looks really nice. Might have to pick one up.
I got a chance to look one over in the hobby shop yesterday. I REALLY like the new full foam fuselage. Just wondering how it flys.

Yes, i have built and flown one. Very quick and easy build, and flies beautifully. Flies just like an ultimate should, a good tail dragger. Just don't fly it in wind over 10mph or it can a handfull. Let me know if you need any specific info.

Jet,
I got mine up today. I can't believe how good this thing flies and looks great. What power system are you running?
Himax 2808-980
Maxx Amps 3S1P 900Mah
E-Flite 20
APC 10x4.7 and APC 11x7 (gas)

Stock gearbox 6.6-1
Thunder Power 3c 1320
Castle Creations Phoenix 25
and a Himax also, can't remember the KV off hand
These things torque roll very easily, and can vertical descend with just a little wind.
Nice 540, i just got to fly one of those the other day. i got to fly it with the new prototype JR spectrum radio at the Jet fly in at Triple Tree. The plane flies very well, and i was even flying it in 15 to 10 mph gusts and it still did fine.

That's good to hear. I think I'm under powered with the 980, I may switch to an in-runner this week.
The Edge is sweet. I have about twenty flights on it and can't get enough. I thinking of droping in a Himax 2808 since they have been getting good reviews.
I just read about that JR Spectrum radio, it seems to have all the features of my 6103. Good price too.

yeah, inrunners are better in my opinion because they are more versitale than outrunners. outrunners are more project specific. yeah that spectrum module probably won't be out for awhile, but look for the ads in magazines soon. and do you mean 6102? the spectrum radios have over a mile range also.

How about weight. What did they come out at fully loaded?
Do you think it would fly indoors?
The Spectrum is supposed to be just for electric parkflyers. Dont use them in a nitro plane because the range isnt there yet. They are limited in output power, but its only a matter of time before they get permission to bump it up to 5 watts. From what Ive heard is that the JR radio set comes with e-flite s75 servos. Havent confirmed this yet though.
Im hoping....er praying that they come out with this for the Futaba radios. Airtronics is the next one they have scheduled from what Ive heard.

Hey, Jet;
I've got mine together, so far. I am using a 11.1 Li-Po 1320 and a Hi-Max 4100 (geared). Where exactly did you place your battery? What is the best CG? Between 90-100mm from top LE? I'm going to fly it with the motor I have on hand right now, but have my reservations already that it will perform only marginal. Should I switch to the E-flite Park 400 Inrunner and use the supplied gearbox that came with the plane? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a Hacker A20-20L sitting on my desk here, just dying to go one something. I spotted this Ultimate and it looks enticing. Anyone have any ideas about matching this motor with this plane?

I got to tell you, after looking in the box at the local hobby shop.....well.....its a georgeous looking airplane. Classic Ultimate bipe. Nice sharp colors, and that molded fuselage looks really good.
Im glad they put flat wings on it. It will fly better like that. More like a 3D foam plane than a tiny slimer.

bda,
mine comes in under 16oz's, very light. and yes you could fly this one indoors very easily. this plane has a very wide flight envelope. and you are correct the spectrum is only for park flyers right now, which is why they were using the eflite edge 540, but have not heard about the eflite servos though.
thevirginian,
as far as the battery goes, with a TP 1320, my plane balanced perfectly at the suggested battery placement in the nose of the plane with the ESC. try the himax, it should work fine, but if not the eflite 400 should be alright. remember, this plane is pretty light, so you shouldn't have too much trouble with any brushless in a gearbox as long as it isn't a really tiny one.
i also left the wheel pants and the other red pieces for the landing gear to reduce drag. it also adds 5 hp... just kidding
$64.99

Thanks, Jet;
I put my battery in the suggested compartment and end up a tad noseheavy. That's why I asked. I try it that way and if I don't like it I 'll find a different location. If I go with the Park 400 I add even more weight to the nose.

Jet,
The Spectrum does come with the servos. Here is the link. If it had some new features, I think would have to have one but I'll settle 9 channel model in the future.

To all,
Would the new E-450 outrunner be alright for this plane? What kind of flight times are you getting with your current set ups?
Thanks in advance. Stangevil29

RE: E-flite Ultimate....the new one
The spectrum radio is a new type of radio that does not operate on 72mhz like all the current offerings.
Up to this point the best "anti-glitch" weve had is PCM2048. PCM= Pulse Code Modulation. The number 2048 refers to its bit rate or resolution.
It uses Pulse Code Modulation to in a somewhat vain attempt at locking on to a specific signal. But it still suffers (often to drastic effects) if someone turns on a tx on the same channel.
The new spectrum radio is Spread Spectrum. Imagine a wonderful world where there are no frequency pins, no accidental "shoot-downs", no glitching, and unlimited planes in the air at one time......well thats where the spectrum comes in.
It "jumps" around on multiple frequencies in a pre-determined pattern. If your reciever doesnt know the pattern or recieves a pattern its not set for....it doesnt accept the signal.
Also since the system operates on 2.4ghz instead of 72mhz, there's no chance of it interfering with existing recievers or accepting interference from other transmitters....even other spectrum recievers.
You could go out to a field where 30 people are flying, and flip on the tx without worrying about shooting someone down. They've been using this technology in cordless home phones for years to filter out and eliminate eavesdropping neighbors.
The RC Car guys got this technology first. Ive been sending e-mail after e-mail to Spektrum for a while now begging for a Airplane version of the system. Apparently enough people bugged them about it, and they finally released it.
The FCC limits the output power of the 2.4ghz devices, so right now with the current limits (I think its around 300mw), it affects range on the radio because the output power isnt high enough to broadcast long ranges. Im sure as the radios become more popular, eventually through legislation and lobbying the output power will be raised to 5W......enough to go fly nitro planes on.
You can read more about it at Spektrum's website located here......
