RE: New EF electric Extra 300
Well, that pretty much sums of the basic assembly. If I only had my batteries I could finish it and fly it. Apparently Thunder Power Pro Lite 3S 2100's are in big demand, but I should get some soon and I will post my flight report with pictures and hopefully video at some point.
My impressions of the plane are this:
1. For some time now the RC market has begged for this type of electric plane. It has a 45" wing and weighs in the 2lb neighborhood ready to fly. I think EF will need many of these to keep up with demand.
2. The overall quality is very high. The ease of assembly and the completeness of the ARF is excellent. You get everything for assembly, hardware is of good quality and also very complete. Instruction manual is also very detailed with lots of photos and you can download from the EF website if desired and print your own color version.
3. I have not flown mine yet, but from the video on the EF website I think that should answer anyones questions.
4. Extreme Flight has set some standards. One of the first planes EF distributed was the 68" yak 54, it set a standard for planes of that size/weight with true 3D performance. Then EF had the 87" Yak 54 which also set the standard for planes of that size/weight, now those are big standards to follow in but EF adds this little electric at a time the RC market was starving for it and delivers a nice punch. I really see this one as a forerunner for things to come in this size/weight class, offering incredible performance, excellent craftsmanship at a competitive price.
Well that is just some of my thoughts on this whole deal. I am fortunate to have owned/flown all of the EF planes and all have been awesome. Hurry up battery packs!!!

gt jumper, I have flown the mini katana and it is OK. However, having watched the video on EF's site and knowing Chris Hinson's flying taste are so similar to mine and the fact he loves this thing makes me know I will love it too. Wish my TP 3S 2100s would arrive.

Also, in the 3D Flying portion of RCU EF added some stuff the the instructions. Click the link below to view Chris's recommendations, you will need to look near the bottom of the page.

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
Get the EF Extra!!! for sure... I've flown mine and it is absolutely the best flying electric I've flown thus far.... it's in a different class than the Katana Mini being larger... and when you atch the video... thta's what YOU can do with the plane... some top pilot workign hard at it... it's an effortless 3D monster and simply a BALL to fly.

omfg i want one so bad, i was gunna get the precision aerobatics mini kitana but this looks like a better investment.

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
Hey guys,
Man what a nice airplane!! How does it perform on the 2100 TP 3S batt? How long is the approx. flight time of 3D?
This is going to be a hard choice!! I was thinking of getting the yak-55 from hyperion, but now I see this one!!
Help me out here guys, what do you think I should go with, the yak-55 and the supplied combo? Or the extra 300 with the combo?
The extra looks a lot more aerobatic in the video, i'm kinda drifting to it now!!
Thanks
LeBlanc

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
Bigger flies better...
I'd say this is a 40%r compared to the Yak 55's 50cc classs...
Flies awesome with stock setup and TP-2100 Prolites... the older TP-2100s sag a little to much for the 25-30 amps...
8-10 minute flights easy... flying hard...

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
I have the Hype Yak, and I'm waiting for my EF Extra.
The Hype Yak is NOT a 3D plane. More scale. It does fly well, for a aerobatic type plane, but too little wing area, and too high wing loading for a real 3Der.

Awsome!!! Now I am sold on the extra!!
Anyone here another video of it?! I got to say I do like the video from their web site.
Well then, here the setup:
The complete combo!!
no messing with a bunch of different things!! I like that.
So what do you guys think of the performance of this plane?
Thanks a lot guys

LeBlanc - what is there to say? See the video as it speaks for itself. This plane is like what Chris says, great for IMAC and does amazing 3D. It is that good for real. Went to the field yesterday and a few guys tested it out. One who flies gassers says the little thing felt big. Guess he means the way it handles. One old timer had me really scared. Coming in for landing he took it in from like 50' with the motor cut off and she just glided in. I was thinking that he is gonna stall her but it did not happen.

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
I just bought EF Extra and the hitec servos. I have an AXI 2820/12 and a Castle 25... will this work in the Extra (understanding that the firewall will need massaging)? Or is it worth getting the motor/speed control Chris sells and have the ease of installation/matched system? Are the Futaba 3110s up to snuff vs the hitec HS 65s?

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
The AXI 2820/12 is aweful big for this airplane at 1.3 oz heavier than the torque.
I also ran it through MotorCalc and the best I can get is 1.34:1 power to weight with a 13x6.5 Any larger prop and it runs too hot. That also draw 31-32 amps and is too much for your CC-25...
The 12x6 would draw 27 amps or so at full throttle so would fit your ESC better (and perhaps your battery) but it would only have about 120 watts per lb... decent 3D but not tremendous pullout.
If tight on a budget, this would fly the plane and you'd enjoy it... not to it's fullest, but it wouldn't be a dog.
If you have the spare $$$... get the Torque Combo... it's a great value and a perfect setup for the airframe.

RE: New EF electric Extra 300
For an AXI maybe the 2814 is better suited. Its about the same size as the Torque but the specs at Hobby Lobby are lower. The Torque 2818 will happily turn a 12x6 while the 2814 is supposedly to be for 25A max only. Try the Torque you will not regret it.

Jwilliams,
I noticed in a few of your pics, your servo's have plywood tabs on one side. Are the 3110's too short for the servo cut outs?
Thanks

... I will go out on a limb here and guess you are close to Buder Park? As the Fenton, MO Chrysler plant must be near you too?...

Thanks for the reply. I got my 3110's from Tower today, why couldn't they make em 1mm longer [:@] and with a couple extra inches of wire [:@][:@].
I'm even gonna have to extend the rudder servo!
Oh yeah, I live in Fenton, MI not MO. Lots of auto plants around here, in fact I work for one of the "Big Three". (Toyota)

Fenton, whoops you are from MI and MO. Oh well.
Wayne, thanks for the video, sounds like that Central Illinois wind blows just as hard as when I lived in that area in the late 80's. Speaking of wind, I am waiting for it to calm down a bit here for my maiden.
