Default Airfoilz Yak or Airfoilz Edge????

I'm about to buy an Airfoilz plane, but I just can't decide which one. The Yak, or the Edge? I'm kind new to 3d, but am progessing very well. They both look like the exact same build, so which one do you guys think is the better plane?

You will like the Yak better because you are new to 3D. It is easier to 3D because it is more stable and yet you will learn a lot from it and it does fly real good. Both fly good, one doesn't fly "Better" than the other, they just do different things. The Edge tumbles better in snaps and knife edge spins.. that sort of thing. I would say.. go for the yak

Yeah, I was leaning towards the Yak from the start, but then I started looking at the edge, and just got tangled up in the two. Thanks flyin kid Anybody else have an input??

All I can tell you is what was recommended to me, as I haven't flown mine yet. I asked many people in several forums the same question, and most recommended the Edge. While I'm new to 3D flying, I have more than 20 years flying experience and I didn't want something that would soon leave me wanting something more capable. I went with the Edge. Once I fly it, I'll let you know if I made the right choice.

Thanks Grampi, looking forward to hearing about it. Have you built it yet? If so, whats it like? Any tips, tricks or anything else like that?

No, I've got to hit the local HS to pick up all the glues and other assorted things in the "required to build" list. I'll be doing that this week. I'll post as I go.

Hey VR-91,

I have both the Airfoilz Yak and Edge.
Favorite planes in my fleet....without question.

Either one will make you more than happy!

I have noticed the Yak Rolls a little faster, but seems not as stable as the Edge.
I'm no gun pilot but thats my observation on the 2 planes.
Again, thats just my $0.02c

Good luck,

C

Hi VR-91

I to am considering these very same planes, I am in the same boat as you. Here are the reviews on these planes , if you havent seen them, it should help you out a little

http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=760 --------- yak reveiw

http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/a...article_id=725 -----------edge review

Also for those who have flown both, which one would be more stable at hovering for the learning 3der

Onle thing I noticed is that they sell the "Almost ARF" and a "ARF". Theres a $40 price difference, does the ARF just have more assembled for you?? What do you guys have??

I have the almost ARF and have never seen the ARF kit so I can't really tell you what the difference is, but I can tell you the assembly of of the AARF kit seems to be very easy and straight forward. I'm only working on mine an hour or two a night and will probably have it completed by the end of the week.

I have a question for you guys. I've noticed my radio's Rx only has one plug for the aileron servos. Do I need some sort of "Y" connector to be able to plug them both in?

The ailerons connection depends on the number of channels your Tx and Rx have. You can always run a Y cable, but will be better off if you have 5 channels or more and you can set the Tx up in flaperon mode. This gives not only aileron, but also spoilers and flaps when the mixing is set right. Oh you'd use an AUX port on the Rx if you have 5 or more channels to connect 1 of the aileron servos and the AIL port for the other. I haven't used a Y cable in years and have no intention of doing so.

In Flaperon mode you can also setup aileron differential which allows seperate travel adjustment such that 1 aileron will go up or down less than the other. This is sometimes required to get an axial roll, more so on bipes than mono wing planes.

My radio is a Spektrum DX6 and I really don't know that much about it yet. I haven't had time to sit down and read the manual for it.

I have the DX6 too. Just use a y harness, much easier to use I think.

I've heard these 3D planes are easier to fly and/or you have more control if you use mixing. Is this not true?

Well I'm not sure it would be easier to fly using mixing, but certainly some planes become more stable in certain manuevers and thus more stable. Setting up flaperon wing mode is really quite easy IME. I suggest it since your radio has the ability.

Mixing can definitely be important, especially if your plane has a bad tendency during certain manuevers.
