What engine are you using?

What battery and what kind of flight times are you getting?

Glad to hear something positive on the AJ. I was hot for one and contacted a large well known dealer and was told to hold off until some problems with them were resolved. He didn't say what the problem was and I expected to read about it somewhere but haven't. I was expecting a back order situation and not a we won't let them ship to us problem. Coming from a dealer that is in business to sell I had to think twice. If anybody has the scoop fill us in please.

Greetings guys.

Taildragger, glad to hear you are enjoying the AJ Extra like everyone else is. We had about 5 flying at the Arizona E-Fest and many others came up to us congratulating us on a fine model. Seeing Mark and Andrew fly this plane like their 40 percenter was simply amazing.

GallopingGhost, there are no major issues to date with this airplane and we have sold very many. I'm not sure what the dealer was referring to but they are misinformed. There is a very popular thread on RCgroups (3D Flying section) with people raving about the plane. Please feel free to give us a call and we will be happy to help you further. Toll Free# 888-473-0856.

FlitonUSA,

Is it possible to put a .46 AX glow motor in one? Or is it strictly electric? I have a .46 and I want to do something with it. I like how the AJ Extra looks.

Hi Stinger, the AJ Extra is built robust but lightweight, primarily for an electric setup. This airplane is designed to be around 3lbs (AUW) or less and in our honest opinion, your engine will be too much power. We do have other very popular airplanes such as the Extra 330s Freestyle and new Inspire 60 Acro that may better suit your needs. Feel free to give us a call at 888-473-0856 if you have any other questions or need purchasing assistance, thank you.

Hey FlitonUSA,, while you are here,,,neon yellow wheels?? My only other gripe,, it takes forever to cut out all the stars on the decal sheet !!

I would suggest running an 8-32 tap through the lg mounting blind nuts before installing the nylon screws. You can thank me later. I just completed #2 by choice, one for 3D one for precision.

Hi Taildragger,

If we die-cut all of the stickers for you, it would take all of the fun out of it.

What are the two different setups that you are running on your AJ Extra for 3D and Precision? If you don't mind sharing with others here who may be interested in either setup.

Thanks.

More precision servos(HS-65's), smaller throws, less prop disk with more pitch(12X8) VS big flat prop(13X6.5), HS-81's and all the throw I can get for 3D.I am using 3cell 2500's for both. AXI 282012 on one, E-flight 15 on the other.

Now, about those neon yellow wheels,,,,,

I just finished mine and it is a TERRIFIC Plane !! It was easy on the buildup w/only a few minor complaints - The wheels are standard ARF wheels using a bolt for axle which is cheap and terrible. I cannot use this setup at our dirt field. I always redo landing gear w/1/8" axles and 2" lite DuBro wheels. But this is no different than any ARF electric I have built so far.

The pull-pull system did not have enough wire to finish so I had to buy wire - but this is not really a complaint just a minor problem.

The landing gear nylon bolts are very tight and sheared off w/a bit of a bump in landing - so you need to be careful w/this plane as it is VERY light ! Also the instructions did not say what thread they were so am finding difficulty locating correct replacements - think they are around 4mm or less metric . Typical less than good instruction book ... someday some mfg. will surprise me and come out w/a really good one !

Now to the flying !! WOW !! This thing took off perfectly and needed only two clicks of aileron and two of elevator . I was amazed how perfect it flew ! I loved the flight . I started w/13/8 prop which I'm sure is too much so am trying 13/4 to get some 3D space. Nice a big in air - easy to see especially w/nice covering difference btwn. front and back . Did all standard maneovers beautifully - I am not a 3D pilot so can't say there. Vertical is good but I think will be better w/different prop. Landing was excellent w/ hardly any wing drop-off , again I'm sure because it is SOOO light .

I setup w/ E-Flite 15 motor and two Thunder Power 2070's (their new batteries - higher C rating ) in paralell. It flew for OVER 20 miniutes ! Yikes ! Of course I didn't wring it out . Phoenix 45amp controller worked beautifully. Deans plugs .

Overall rating on this plane - 99 out of a possible 100 ! You have got to get this plane - it is wonderful ! Can't wait for my next flight !

Nice job Fliton and Andrew !!

Hey DP,, try it with ONE of those TP 2070s,,, half the weight, The battery will hadle it just fine!
For the landing gear mounting,I used an 8-32 tap and new 8-32 nylon screws. The stock screws have a shoulder on them that prevent tightning, allowing the gear to 'rock'. Agreed,, the lg is lightwieght stuff, but I am OK with that !! I even used "spectra" fishing line for the pull-pull. Little things add up.

Thanks , TD, I'll try one battery next flight ! REALLY thanks for 8/32 tap idea - never occurred to me. I cannot get any good ground handling on our rough dirt w/the little bolts as axles - as soon as I use 1/8" axles w/lite wheels perfect tracking on ground.

Neat plane...

Man , can't wait to get that puppy up in the air w/ONE battery ! Yikes! I don't think I'll need to worry about vertical !

BTW, it was 70degrees today in Vegas ! What a beautiful day ! I'm hoping to be able to get out at least two days a week instead of only one...
