Hey Kiosk

My night ended just like yours. The new flyer with the screen name "I love nachos" has become an instant expert on his T28 and was even flying my 260 around. Needless to say later when I was working close to the ground on handling, knife edges, and inverted slow speed, I caused my poor friend to run for cover when my 260 chose to bond with Mother Earth.........Nachos did well and despite the carnage pictures I am attaching, he flew his plane like a champ.

I followed Aflipz advice on the left right balance and it was flying great tonight with two pennies on the right wing. great handling until the wreck......

I have even added a picture for Jimeni with my nylon screw modification. I added a little bar and drilled two holes and just added two more nylons. the flights prior to this one were non-issues for the landing gear. Hell, this one augured very hard and the only piece I won't have to throw away is the landing gear and my four nylon screws

Really a sad night and I have to consider going to the LHS and buying a new 260 tomorrow ( I think I have ruled out the Mini Showtime) or pick up a Mini FuntanaX. Lurking on the horizon (no pun intended) is the Ultimate 20-300 Bipe, but I have to move to a Power 10 when I already have the 480 1020kv sitting here on the airplane autopsy table.

decisions decisions decisions.......one thing I think I know is this plane is roached. I have brought so many back before on rebuilds but this one is a house of tooth picks []

enjoy the carnage everyone

Oh man! Between here and rcgroups it's an epidemic! That's like 4 260's in a little over a week what the heck is going on?

I don't enjoy carnage, it stings to see that even from way over here, especially since it was still growing on you

add mine to the list ...went out this week, dorked the landing and it became firewood ...also smoked the battery ...caught the edge of it and crushed it in the process. Oh well, I'll try to get another one too .... I've still got the Pawnee and the AT-6 to maiden.

even with the full nose in, my battery was untouched. I have learned after others have come out of crashes like a peeled banana to add a small piece of foam (feels like flexible stryofoam that seems to have some outside layer on it but weighs nothing) and place it right behind the fire wall. instead of the engine doing a number on the battery this little airbag took the hit and got beat up. My Thunder Power battery looks brand new, and there is not a mark on it. the only good thing about the crash[:-]

aflipz & kiosk

it is a real bummer. I had it balanced out so much better to the point where I was doing controlled high speed passes with about 4 inches of ground between my wheels with very little need for any control input. I had finally found the CG sweet spot with this battery where it was flying inverted with very little input at all to keep it going.

alas, it was this that killed it as it was going by me inverted and despite the sunglasses I got just enough sun in the eyes to lose enough orientation as i was bringing it into KE. Instead of bringing it around to the left in the orbit, I got it to the right and it was slowing down too much. I ran out of height to roll it over and not have to apply stupid amounts of power that at that moment I thought would crash it. Surprise, based on the orientation and the "lack of applying stupid amounts of power" my 260 became a Jenga game.

I was working on the real life stuff you perfect on a sim, but winds up being different on the real flight. As soon as I saw the hulk sitting there I noticed my DX7 did not have a red reset button

Going to the LHS today to see if a 260 needs a good home. For now, I am going to steal the Great Planes Extra 330s I built for my son to fly on the buddy box and tear around on that for a while

cheers

That is the "newbie" in you saying that . I never brought mine when you made your T28 wing tips touch pulling out of that dive right at me, so we are even[X(].

You notice I did not even swear when the 260 hit or you might have still been hiding under my car.... Looking forward to the LHS shopping trip today

As for the wreck of the 260, I gutted out all the components and have set aside the pieces parts to mull over them for the potential of a winter restoration project.

What I could use from the others on the thread is the measurements of the engine mount area and the box as I still have the remnants of the firewall, but don't want to spend $50 on a new fuse when I can repair and rebuild the firewall forward.

I am hosed. LHS and others out of the 260 3D for a good while. Anyone that can provide some measurements as I described above would help me as I attempt to at least build something flyable until they are available. My luck they will be available at Christmas

Yeah, carnage is only good in very small amounts, and with planes you've had a while!!

here's something you might want to try - the Fliton 260 has about the same characteristics as the e-flite 260 does, I think the wing is 1" longer ..... many lhs' have it in stock or can orfer one ... personally, I'd wait for the e-flite.

sorry to hear about the pants wing dagger. If you are flying on grass and have not perfected Aflipz or Jimeni's harrier landings, consider ditching the pants and going with the MPI 2.5 sport wheels. Hell they are the ony thing that stayed on in my wreck...

Prior to that I was landing nicely with them, and you can dremel the opening in the wheel pants and these wheels will fit the 260 pants

Do you guys think the Hitec HS-45HB servo is enough for the ailerons on this plane? I am using Hitec HS-65HB on the rudder and elevator but want to see what you guys think about the HS-45HBs on the ailerons.

Thanks,
Tony

Oh man! Between here and rcgroups it's an epidemic! That's like 4 260 's in a little over a week what the heck is going on?
Well you can add another to that and make it 5 260's......LOL! My maiden flight ended in disaster. This plane is not a good grass take-er off-er, for lack of a more proper term. I guess I should have listened to the people that said to change the wheels. We have a grass runway and I had to give it lots of throttle to get it to start rolling. Once it got airborne, it spiraled and nose dived from about 10 feet up. it all happened so fast I'm not sure what they heck happened. I guess it didnt help that the thing was not yet trimmed and it is a super sensitive plane. Which its supposed to be. It was totally my fault.

I will say that because of the lightness of this plane, it makes for some pretty horrific crashes. Not a good part left on the plane. Cowl, smashed. Wings (plural) broken. Fuselage, cracked in half. Landing gear, bent up. All from a less than 10 foot crash. To make matters worse, the engine smashed into the LiPo and bent it all up. So there goes a $60 battery that was used for about 30 seconds.

I guess I got too cocky in thinking that this would be a good second plane after graduating from my Hobbico Nexstar. I think I will go back to my trainer for oh, say another 1000 flights or so...LOL!

So I am gathering up all of the electronics, which are still good and ebaying them (eflite servos, eflite 480 motor and esc, extra 2100 thunderpower Lipo, Spektrum receiver, etc).

Back to the Nexstar for now. I do have a H9 PTS Mustang coming, so hopefully that will be a much better second plane for me.

geez that sucks...no wonder they are out of stock from Horizon!!!

well I flew mine all day yesterday, not a scratch....on full throws this baby rocks on 3D. I took wedgewing advice and dumped stock wheels and pants and added MPI 2.5 wheels, that helps a lot on grass.
