I have my castle 35 under the battery tray and my battery (2170) back, almost touching the wingtube, this is where my 260 flew best.
I just finished #2,I used pinned hinges for maximum frictionless deflection.I found the CA hinges a bit stiff and the servos were groaning.I also sealed all the gaps with scotch tape and did a lateral balance.
Of course after 2 weeks of nice weather, today is grey and raining..

I got to see a new E flight Extra make a first flight today. He used the E flight 480 and a 2100 pack. It really flew nice in the gusting wind we had today much better than my Aero Works Extra 260 profile did. I am using a 480 also so I did have him beat in the verticle.

From my impressions, and don't get me wrong; i like this plane very much (I just posted a new video of it) matter of fact, here it is in high quality divx;
http://stage6.divx.com/user/Aflipz/v...-extra-260-480
What i meant to say, is that it is begging for a milestone step in battery performance... something in the 90 grams range able to give 30A of current and still have more capacity than a 2100 pro lite 3 cell. Well, all planes "need" that. but every gram you take off this thing is an improvement.

I would like some of you guys to try the slowflyer prop from APC the 12x6.I do, and I think it performs better than the APC 12x6E series, but my motor is 910kv

RE: NEW~~~E-Flite Extra 260 480 ARF~~~
How much does it draw on a 12x6?
If it is less than you are willing to go maybe a xoar 12x7 would work well to offset the lower KV. slowfly props will make more thrust at lower rpm's that is what they are designed for, but they can't take advantage of the top end at all. Maybe your problem is the 910kv is not high enough to generate sufficient pitch speed from the 12x6 to give you good midrange throttle response.
Just a thought. If you werent 5000 clicks away i would hand you one of mine to test with pleasure.

No actually,I have tons of low end grunt and superb midrange right to max rpm.on the slowflyer.Power is no issue at all.
When I put the 12x6E on it ,it just seemed to slip alot more,on the low end,I would wind up with less thrust for sure.
I fly mostly 70% power when I cruise in Pattern style.I have done some fast passes under full power and it makes a cool deep purring sound. I think its the blades bending ,so i keep my overall speed down.
I am tempted to buy a 1020KV,but I am not low on power and the motor is another 80 bucks.

Cut and pasted from their sites..
Hacker A30-14L Brushless Outrunner Motor 143g 490W
Perfect for use in your 30-45 oz 3D Aerobatic or Scale RC model airplane.
The Park 480 Brushless Outrunner motor is designed to deliver clean and quiet power for 3D park flyers 20- to 30-ounces (565- to 850-grams), scale park flyers 25- to 35-ounces (710- to 990-grams), or models requiring up to 275 watts of power.Weight 87 grams It’s an especially good match for E-flite's Mini Edge 3D ARF (EFL2225) and Mini Funtana 3D ARF (EFL2075), and would provide extreme power for sport park flyers such as the Mini Ultra Stick ARF (EFL2250).
Specifically this 1020 Kv option can handle more current than the 920 Kv version so it is a much better option when match with the Thunder Power Pro-Lite cells.
It seems too much motor and weight. It will not be a good match at all.Look for a motor that weighs under 100 grams and can produce close to 300 watts and will use 2100 size packs.

nope. I think that would be too big for the EF 300 (uses a 105 gram 900kv 388 peak watts motor) and the fliton, unless we are talking about the fliton AJ extra in which it might be suitable.
it would go in the EF yak though http://www.extremeflightrc.com/html/yak54e.html

we are saying the same thing basically... try a 12x7 xoar and tell me what you think... that "slipping" is lack of thrust caused by a "smaller" prop surface vs slowfly at 'slowfly" rpm's (5K or less) , you are not getting enough thrust because your rpm's are too low. to increase thrust without increasing rpm you either have to add diameter or pitch, in your case pitch is where i would start.

This pilot, althought he is a rookie with just two flights, he has survived to one crash and he already has its own Extra 260![8D]

RE: NEW~~~E-Flite Extra 260 480 ARF~~~
Didn't realize this thread was here when I posted in the other.
Built mine this last weekend, Park 480, TP 2100 Pro-Lite, Hs-65's all around, Electron 6 receiver. CG was dead on with the pack at the back of the tray, still have plenty of room to play with.
I made its first flight in winds I should not have, and had to land immediately. I did not lose the plane, but was very close to it. I think the plane would fly okay in heavy winds if you had it set up first, definitely scary on its first flight.
I did want to comment on the hs-65's though. I have used HS-55's, S75's, Expert micros, JR micros, and a few others looking for a micro servo that at least centers properly and consistently. I have even tried a couple micro digitals. The HS-65 so far has outperformed all others no question. It snaps back to the exact center every time(I have digital throw meters), and its response time is great! If you have grown frustrated with micro servos like I have, please give these servos a try. You will like them!

Some yes, I am using a CC Phoenix 35 A and have flown it for a few months now with nothing but hs-65's, 4 of them on the extra. With no issues at all. I have heard of concern, so for the weight cost of another servo, you could add the new CC BEC. $20 and would eliminate that problem. Plus without using the bec on the speed control it can handle more current.
I maidened the extra when I got home last night. Wow, what a plane. Lands so sweet. Fly great. I will spend some time at the field this weekend dialing her in and hopefully get some video. I flew it in my front yard last night which is really a tight space so there is no area to get the plane dialed in and working. First impressions are... wow. I love it! 2100 battery and a park 480 with an APC 12 x 6 and it flew for 12 minutes no cutoff.

RE: NEW~~~E-Flite Extra 260 480 ARF~~~
thanks for the update on the time of the flight. I usually can get 15 minutes out of the 3c 2100 lipos for the MUS, and was wondering what would be the good time to orbit down wind on my maiden. Planning for this weekend as it is pouring rain, and darn it, work does tend to get in the way of the fun doesn't it? can't wait.

Please correct me if am mistaken. Is using 4x 65's going to overload some recievers?
Please correct me if am mistaken. Is using 4x 65's going to overload some recievers?
it is not the reciever that would be overloaded but the bec of a sub-par esc. And i think the concern is mostly when using some digital servos; hs65's don't draw that much.

I got to study this more, this BEC thing is a little fuzzy to me.
I think it may have been a 2.4 that had voltage loss with high draw servos.

I flew my Extra with a 480 1020Kv, a Tower Pro 50 Amp Speed ct'l,HXT 2200 3S, and Jr 285's all around. Nothing but pure performance. I was able to get a 14 min. flight. Great plane, great setup.

Did my third flight on the extra last night, fairly gentle landing, landing gear ripped right off and put holes through the wings. No support left for the LG either. How dissappointing, I was REALLY looking forward to this airplane. Will send it in to horizon, see what they say!
