PA got back with me....They are making it right and thats what counts. Its not that the issues arise, its how things are handled afterwards that mean the most.

I will continue to send my business to PA in the future!!!

Hi Greg,

As we mentioned to you over the email, the emails you sent us were all over the weekend (Sat/Sun).
Our shop is closed over the weekend and we attend all emails on Monday morning. This last weekend was an exception. We received the container of the new Extra 260 on Friday and were working hard through the weekend to ship the pre orders.
Still first thing on Monday morning we replied your emails.

We are doing absolutely our best to serve all customers as fast as we can.

Is the Katana still popular? I have had mine since it first came out. Have over 100 flights on it. Stuck it in a tree over night and had to get a bucket truck to get it out. That was 40 flights ago. Some covering comes loose every now and then and i had to replace the landing gear. That`s it.

Of course it's still popular! Yes she'll take the abuse and show you nothing but love.

But 177 (slicktop) grams of motor is definitely way too much iron in the nose, too bad because the KV is just right.

When i first saw the plane i called Precision and told them i was buying $100 planes that where falling apart during high speed passes and wild high G full throw moves. They said it could handle it. So i spent the extra money and i trusted that. Now let me tell you. I have done every full throttle,Prop noise aching sound, all surfaces maxed out spins at full speed and have yet to break anything on it. It is well built. Over 100+ flights like that. If i put this one in the ground on my next flight i would order another the same day. I went thru about 4, $100 planes before this one ended the cycle. Over 100 flights like that. Thanks, please send royality check. Just joking!!!!

My buddy demonstrated it's resiliency here. Here he is yapping his mouth off on how great this plane is (knowing the camera is rolling) and he totally messes up.

I deeply regret stopping the tape, you would have been amazed just as I was to see him examine it, re-adjust CG, put the canopy back on and continued to fly.

Disclaimer; examine and over examine every part of the plane you can check for stress fractures if this happens, because you never know; you might loose a motor mount or something in the air doing those hard maneuvers later. It has not happened yet to this one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtgcB...e=channel_page

I DID however, write one MD off by no fault of my own. (radio failure, rx manufacturer confirmed and replaced the rx) I completely lost radio control and watched helplessly as it spun in, HARD. many parts of the covering exploded into confetti on heartbreaking impact (shattered in pieces instead of tearing) I got another one love it as much as the first. Got my 260, can't wait for good weather to fly them again AND try out my shiny new AMR!

This is also old stuff, I don't suggest watching the whole thing, but you can see the destroyed plane at 4:52: (Leblanc and I decided to just fly relaxed without filming anything, I took off while he was still setting up, banked left about 200 feet or so away, 3 mistakes high, started a banked turn to the left to come back and that's when she locked up and lost power, spin... bang. I remember it like it was this PM.

Structure wise the plane is solid. Sorry to here about that failed radio. that has to be the worst thing to lose a plane that was not dumb fingers when you did everything right. If they admited a radio failure it seems they would pay a portion of the plane. I still fly old school on channel 34 fm. No 2.4 here. You wouldn`t think it would fly again on the first vid. The 2nd just needed CA. A large volume of CA! One thing i have noticed is that you don`t want to deadstick at low altitude if you don`t have to. That`s with anything except a foamy.
My next one is that bi-plane by Precision.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way; they guarantee only their product and not the losses you encounter when it fails on you. For what an RX is and what it costs, I knew better than to even ask for anything other than a functional, guaranteed rx replacement.

Just like you're trading stock online, and your internet service provider goes down unexpectedly for 5 crucial minutes causing you to loose thousands; they owe you the 5 minutes of free service, that's the way it goes.

Karma owes me that's for sure

I think I can give an answer to that question since I have both airplanes.
They are very similar.
Extra has profiled rudder and elevator and is a little bigger.

however from flight characteristics I can report one difference that I have noticed:

The Katana is much calmer in a harrier. The extra tends to "wobble", meaning oscillate around longitudinal axis from left to right...

But that might have to do with different c/gs as well. Am not sure.

Extra gains speed faster...

And:
I am not one of those artfully professional 3d-pilos yet- am still working on my hover and keeping the knife edge steady...

Cheers, Martin

Thanks for the input. I am about to get one, but which one. With the same weight and a bigger airframe you would think the extra would have the advantage, but everyone I have heard from says the Katana is the way to go. Thanks again!

The Katana is more "tame" for 3D practice, mostly due to it's wing shape and longer tail moment.

The 260 is wilder, can still hover harrier torque roll etc, but it's more aggressive and "eager" . If you were looking to compete in IMAC and freestyle with an electric of this size your weapon of choice would probably be the 260 for it's broader envelope, if you're an advanced novice you'll probably have a better time with the MD. If you're Daniel Dominguez you probably prefer the 260. I enjoy going back and forth from one to the other.

Here's an original comparison; The Katana MD is like Taylor Swift, and the extra 260 is like Amy Winehouse. They are both great at what they do, one is just a little more edgy than the other ( I wanted to say Queen Adreena instead of Amy Winehouse, but very few people know who she is or what she's about)

Yes the main difference is on the MD you cross the pull pull wires and on the 260 you do not. Other than that they both feature a high level of pre-assembly and the fibre fusion technology that makes these planes so light and strong.

I am pretty sure we have at least one 260 thread on here but anyhow if you have any other questions go ahead and ask!

Aw right!

There is no excuse for having a thread about such an awesome plane completely ignored for months at a time! (unless there are other Katana MD threads here on RCU that I am not subscribed to?)

anyway congrats on your purchase, read the manual carefully and ask away if you have any uncertainties during the assembly. There are some things PA's design team do that you don't find very often out there, it's worth while to stick to the plan. Just copying the pushrod/zbend solution to my other planes has allowed me to shed some weight off all of them.
