They both seem to use about the same power setup. I would probably go with the EF Yak, as it comes in a combo, with everything for $549.99. That is, a battery, motor, esc, prop, 4 servos, deans plugs, bec, and servo extensions. Link.
If you are really looking for something that will perform well, go with a Katana MD. A lot of people say it's worth the price, not to mention the pre-hinged ailerons. It's also only $499.99 for the combo, which includes the same as above. Link.
Either of the planes should perform very well, but if you are looking for something that's not too expensive, I would go with the Katana MD. You also have to program the Hacker esc for the cell count you are going to use, which is a bit of a drawback, but no big deal.

I wouldn't know. I fly at ~sea level all the time. I don't think it will matter, but the four cell will give more power, in the 2:1 thrust ratio you want. Like I said before, if you want a plane that will perform equally well, and comes with everything but a reciever and a radio, for a cheaper price, then go with a Katana MD. I do believe its construction is much stronger because of all the CF reinforcements.
But if you really want the yak, then go with the four cell combo. It's more power for you.

lilbanchee:
Am in the finishing stages of the KatanaMd. Have been playing with models since 1948, so around for a while. This is the best bird I have ever seen out of the box for finish and detail, ailerons very trick. Understand the raves from the guys, they are right on. Check it out, right in the ball park you are looking at.

Yeah, what he said. Scoubidou, you should go with a Katana MD. It's only $399.99 for a motor, esc, battery, prop, servos, extensions, and the plane. You are pretty much set, except for some minimal glueing, and adding a reciever. It would be a good plane for a replacement for your big gassers.

Just my 2 cents, I've got the EF Yak and it flies great. I'm only running the 3 cell w/ 12X6 prop and it has a great vertical climbout. Snap rolls, inverted flat spins and anytihing else you can think of are pretty easy to do on this bird. It has a pretty low wing loading so I can pretty much cut the throttle and let it glide in deadstick w/ almost no input needed on the controls. With the mid wing location it also has less of a tendency to snap when I yank back on the elevator. The rolls are also more centered because of this. Another guy at my field has the 88 inch version and flies pretty indentical to my 47 incher. The QQ version also comes with the SFG's t make your knife edges a little easier, but you can make a set for the EF if you really want that. My config is Axi 2820/10 motor, 12X6 APC E prop, Pheonix 60 ESC, 4 HS-65hb servos & TP Extreme 2200 Mah 11.1v.
