flyingC,a BEC stands for battery eliminater circut. On the electrics its a part of the ESC it allows the same battery that powers the plane also power the servos instead of having to have a seperate battery to do so.Have fun on that dirt bikeOlin

I fly my Flash in my back yard. It's weight is 13.8 RTF like I posted earlier. The bad thing about that is very, very light wind will blow it around pretty bad. With the weight of Olins it would fly better in wind. I do like my foamies as light as possible for less wing loading which allows for a better 3D airplane. Better harriers, hovering and so on. Just my opinion and my taste.

So far I have installed the CF on the elevator and backbone. Im waiting to get 'Amazing Goop' before I glue the wing halves together.

But, I am using the Hyperion motor and the screws are two big to fit into the plastic piece so I will drill those out. And is only 2 screws suppose to hold the motor on??

And why toothpics to hold th motor mount on, doesn't seem very strong.

You still want to glue the mount too.

What is the best way to cut out the servo holes in the wing?

So I am almost done! BUT, what to do with the motor and mount. I don't like the toothpick idea so I think I will use a paper clip and make it into a big staple and put both sides into each hole....

What did you do?

I used music wire but again it does'nt matter much becouse you still will be glueing the mount on anyway.

Ok, I am very glad you posted that pic for me to see. I am going to drill the foam out using a drill and a small bit, then sharpen the dowels so its a snug fit.

Did you use a bigger dowel on the backbone? I have two different sized ones and am thinking about doing small dowels on the fuse parts and big on the backbone.

I appreciate the help, thanks

I did but only because I had them laying around.I dont think it's a real big deal as long as the screw is in center and grabing good.I guess there are lots of ways you can make the holes, core it with something the same size, drill it.I did it the hard way i guess I held a piece of the dowel where i wanted the hole cut around outside with a knife and then cut it as deep as i could and then took out what i needed to with tweezers and my knife.not very pretty at the time but it got the good done. The same pic i posted here is in the RCG's thread for the plane but with so many pages it's hard to find any more.Olin

Maiden report!

So I was surprisingly not nervous for my flight today. I got to the field and saw another guy flying RC. I taxied just to make sure the control surfaces were correct and testing the range. Then I picked it up and gave it half throttle and it took off, up I went, way suprised at how well it handled. It needed a good amount of trimming on elevator and some on aileron, but it might be a CG problem. But anyway I was doing rolls, loops, a bit of knife edge on my first flight But then I turned using the ailerons and it all of a sudden goes into a spiral, a servo had locked up This happened once while programing my radio, but I did get it down safely.

But the left aileron servo was bad, and it happened yet again and it happens when its fully pushing, but since I programed it like 75%, it didn't spin that fast. . .

But whats the problem with the servo, or Rx,??? I am going to try a different servo and see what happens, but it DID get down with ought mishap so I am a very Happy Boy!

Thanks for everyone and anyone in this thread for all helping me, if I was amazed at how well it flew today, I can't wait to see what it can do when I fix the servo and find the CG!!

Whats up with everyones Flash? Just had mine in the backyard with about 25 MPH gusts! It was a handful to say the least but awsome training on the sticks. This is the same one I put together last season and it's holding up great! Awsome foamy to use around the house.

Scott,Mine is still going strong.I was just curious on some planes how much I fly them so I have been keeping track of the number of flights and on the Flash I'm up to 251 flights(don't fly it as much as I did,got a couple new foamies and balsa planes ).So far have had the whole front with motor on it come off during a hard snap roll and my elevator hinge is broke alittle so i used tape on that ,it's still going strong.Olin

Ive had to add tape to a couple of the hinge lines and reglue the motor mount after nosing it in a couple of times. I can't believe how the Flash holds up, really incredible! Think I'll take it outside right now as a matter of fact.

I just bought another Flash. I'll start it in a few days. I'm going for even a lighter build than the last. It will be good.
