RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
Maiden-crash I'll give that 11x4.7 a try. I few 6 TP2100 and one TP1350 pack today on that 12x3.8 slow fly and really like it a lot. I also like the reduced weight handelling of the with the TP1320. This is the best 3D plane I have personally ever seen, I'm going to order the PA Shock for the back yard.

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
Been a while since I posted here,
MC is right, go the APC 11 x 4.7 SF, the best combo for this airframe.
Time for me to get another one.... Initially I thought it wasn't too bad until I picked it up and bits of balsa confetti rained out of the cowl. Every time I shook it even more came out. Motor mount, battery tray, fuse stringers to the back of the hatch, and most formers are toast. I pulled the LG plate out and cracked almost every wing rib. Check where the lipo ended up!

Ahh,
It doesn't look too bad from the photo - and the photo is not staged/groomed for the camera - thats where the parts all landed! There's a lot more damage than the photo showed - almost all the wing ribs, wing tips, the fuse motor box and formers all the way to the back of the canopy. Ultimately, it's all a matter of time, MC - my Tiger Moth build is taking all my spare time. I worked out at my hourly pay rate that it is cheaper for me to buy a new one then to spend a couple of hours fixing this one.

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
Just did the maiden flight on mine today. I thought the E-flite 480 Extra 260 was an awesome plane, but the addiction is just phenominal. I used Atlanta Hobbies suggested torque motor, Hitec HS-65MG servos, and an E-flight 40 amp esc (already had it), but it weighs the same as suggested, so a little elbow room. It took 1 flight for it to become my favorite plane, and I mainly fly an Aeroworks Yak 54 with a 26 cc gasser on it. It was dark, and I was in a well lit parking lot planning on just doing a quick trim flight, cause I couldnt wait till morning. But with no trims needed, and recommended CG right on the money, had to do a little 3D. Can not beleive how easy this thing hovers, and rolling harriers. But blue isnt that visible at night, so, I cant wait till morning to get here.

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
I have a much loved addiction that i have flown for the past year
However i have had the pleasure of flying this new bipe from Precision Aerobatics
http://www.precisionaerobatics.com/u...ESENTATION.mov
This has the slow flying floatiness (in fact i dont think the ultimate even has a stall !!) of the Add but busts open the flying envelope by delivering insanely accurate tracking at speed for precision flying - and tumbles you wont belive - it automatically invert flat spins when you take it up and throw full down elevator, full left or right rudder and opposing aileron.
Its my new favourite plane!

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
I recently finished this plane and flew it with:
Silver Series 35A Brushless Electronic Speed Control (GPMM1830)
35-30-1250kV Brushless Outrunner Electric Motor (GPMG4595)
LiPo 2100mAh 11.1V 20C Battery Pack w/Balance Connector (GPMP0617
This is called the Great Planes ElectriFly Park Flyer E-Performance Power System sold by tower hobbies. The specifications of all this gear are almost identical as the products of IPAS and Thrust specified by the manufacturer.
The mounting of the electric motor only required enlarging the mounting holes NOT IN DIAMETER, but extending them down about 3/32 o an inch to fit the motor. Put some washer big enough to grab the wood and carbon fiber. Read some are complaining about this. Not to many options since the bigger the washer the bigger the diameter so not so many options of washers to fit the screws.
Also used the engine WITH OUT using the dapater that comes with. Used the side that has the axle, removing the bronze fitting and a small c-clip that holds the axle. This is no problem unless the engine goes trough the fire wall.
Placed the speed controller below the battery tray, and the battery nicely fits.
I think this is the cheapest way to go WITH OUT buying unknown brands with no customer suport or warranty in USA.

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
Hello folks, I have been flying the Addiction for a few months now and it has become my favorite plane of late. I have built two for myself so far, both are stock in that I used the Precision Aerobatics IPA setup with the Thrust 20 motor, Bluebird MG BB servos and the V2-1800 mah battery pack. I am getting about 10 minute fligth times with the 1800 pack if I hover almost continuously and about 14 minutes if I actually fly the Addiction like an airplane. (seldom happens anymore!) I have had no problems with the motors, esc., batteries or with the servos so far My wife also flies the Addiction thought that she wanted more power in hers so we built one using a Park 480 and another using a Torque 900. She also used the HS-65 digital servos which are nice servos but almost 2X the weight of the Bluebirds. Between the heavier motor, heavier servos and the larger battery packs, her birds fly differently than mine but I have noticed something else worth mentioning..she tends to break the airframe during even fairly minor crashes whereas I have yet to break anything in the airframe itself of my planes. (the wheel pants, cowl and one landing gear did not fair so well but the airframes are all fine) Apparently extra weight at the scene of a crash in not a positive! I have about 40 hours on my Addictions and I have been trying to learn to 3D with them. I can finally hover pretty well down low, catch the plane while flying but rolling harriers elude me so far. But what a great plane to learn 3D with! The slow flying speed and the large amount of control give me a fighting chance to get out of any bad situtations I get into and to actually see when I make a mistake. The slow flying characteristics are of course maximized when the plane is kept light and I don't think that the airframe was really meant to have extra weight added to it but probably fine if you don't touch anything but air! (grin) Happy flying.

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
Ed, Thanks for the email. I was expecting it to be windy all day but lo and behold it glassed off beautifully this evening and I was able to discharge 5 Lipos... I know that there are people that fly the Addiction in windy conditions but at my skill level at least, hovering etc. is a lot easier when it is calm.

Try a rolling harrier with the heavier plane. I think you will find it a little easier. I'm using atlanta hobbies recommended torque motor, E-flite 40 amp speed control, HS-65MG servos, and Zippy 2200 mah lipo's (5.6oz). I also have some 1600 mah ones that are almost 2 oz lighter, but I like it more for 3D with the heavier battery. With the 2200 mah I'm at 26.1 oz AUW though, so it seems I got a lite one. This plane is awesome, you should try the shock also. This plane will deffinately improve your skills. But you do run the risk of not wanting to fly anything else!

Or try a rolling harrier witha depron foamy. Its important to have a lot of aileron authority, so get something that rolls quickly.

Did any mount the motor controller switch on the stock setup? I am at loss on where and how, but not crazy about letting it hang loose either.

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
I am planning on getting an addiction at toledo this year. I am trying to decide what size battery. Would it be better to go with their 1800, a lighter 1500 or 1600, or a 2100?

[] Ummmmmm...you are joking, right Karen? This is a forum to discuss an Radio Controlled airplane called the "Addiction". R/C flying is a totally different type of addiction than drugs and alcohol.

I've heard a lot about the Addiction and now have decided to buy one. Should I purchase the iPA Pro Package, or would you reccomend buying a motor/battery package that has better performance and price tag?

RE: Precision Aerobatics Addiction
I would have said go with the IPA package; however I have been hearing a great deal of hype (no pun intended) about the Hyperion generation 3 lipos. I don't have any experience with these batts personally; but if next time I'm in the market for some I'm definitely going to consider those. You can read up on them here:
http://www.hyperion-world.com/produc...-LG325-2100-3S
I've heard great things about the motor/esc. Maybe just buy the thrust motor and esc and consider a couple of hyperion batts if you can find them in stock.
Don't get me wrong...there is nothing wrong with the PA batts so if you want to keep it simple one of those would work great as well. You just can't charge em as fast. To be fair; most chargers don't have the capacity to charge at 5C. I have a Batam and I think the max is 5 amps so you are really only looking at 2.25 C for a 2200 mah batt.
By the way...I'm sure you know this but you can't go wront with the addiction
