Default areoworks prox260 any good?

I've been looking at both the 40-60 and the 60-90 . any first hand info regarding what you think of these planes would be great.

Thanks in advance...JW

Compared to other profiles or compared to a Twist? It's not the best out there.
Sure it's built well for an ARF and will be fun to fly but not the best 3D profile by any standard.
I've seen Jason fly the 90 in person. He's a sponsored pilot and a good one. It just won't do all the 3D tumbling like other profiles will.
It is heavier than other comparable profiles as well. I wouldn't even consider the small one as it builds out a full pound heavier than a regular 40 size.

Do you mean 3D like this

or 3D like this?

The mojo and primo look like the way to go. Its been a very long time sence I built a plane. I think the last one was back in 84.
Thanks for the vids...JW

OMP's RazorYak, Fusion, and ProYak are good if you need an ARF.
I still prefer the builds. They are pretty easy compared to full fuse birds to build.

I havn't heard from this guy in a while but he's from your state. It's another MoJo.

I watched a vid on the build up of the mojo , you talked me into it, I'll build one. even though its been a long time I still have all the tools and parts needed to get the job done, including about 60+ rolls of monocoat[8D]

I would definately build one if you have that much Monokote on hand. Wow! In defense of the Aeroworks Prox260 though, I think it's a great plane. Not every one has the time or desire to build and some arf's out there aren't that great anyway. I think this Aeroworks profile is going to turn out to be a good plane for some. [8D]

The x260 is a great plane. Excellent knife, loop, and sport flier. Not great at tumbling and wants to fly through a snap.
It's just not the best profile 3D plane.

Ok I have one last question , mojo or primo 40 and the same for the 60 size.

I have a few extra engines NIB sitting here os 46 fx and for the 60 size I have a Saito 120 and a ys 110 . If push came to shove I have some plane that haven't been flown for some time that have the following engines I could use. OS 70 four stroke , OS61 and 91 FX both with Mac pipes.

Waiting to hear what you guys think is the best...And Thanks...JW

The perfect MoJo 60 combo is with a Saito 100. The one I have is with a YS110. It's way more power than you need but I still came in at 6lb. 1oz. which is great for the weight overall. The power to weight ratio on the Saito 120 is really low. I'd recommend the MoJo 60 over the Primo 60 for your first real 3D bird. I'd also recommend this size as your first profile. The 60 size gives you what feels like double the reaction time over a 40 size bird.

The Primo is a great plane and is looser in the tail. It flips faster, tighter, and the rudder is way more sensitive. It's one you upgrade to as your skills get better.

Now on to 40 size. This size can and has been started with. I started with a MoJo 40 and did the MoJo 60 after a season on the 40.
I wish I had started with the 60 for the reasons stated above. On the 40 size the engine of choice is OS55AX, Webra 50, Saito 72,82, and YS63-70.
A 46AX has and will work just fine but the 55AX is quite a bit better.

A couple more options I have is motors installed in the two twists...YS63 and a Dubb Jett 76. I really dont want to buy more motors right now ...but then again I'm not about to poor boy this build either so the hunt for a 100 and maybe another Jett is on...JW

BTW I want to thank you Thumbskull for taking the time to give me advise. I've been out of the flying seen for a couple years , then the other day I took down one of my planes and fired it up , the smell of the glow exhaust and the thump of that ol 110 set the hook again, Heck, my hands were shaking after the run, just like the first time I flew.

The order for the Mojo 60 will go in tomorrow, pending on the freight I my just combine the others to the order at the same time...Thanks again...JW

Glad to help. I wandered down this path a few years ago after a 15 year hiatus.

16x6 Xoar on that 110 is what I use. Second choice is MAS S2 16x6.

You need to rescue that 65 from sitting in the box. Great with a Saito125-180 or a YS110-160 or an OS120AX.
Great airframe with two fiberglass tubes in the fuse to keep the tail rigid. Flies great.

He told me he gave a 40 away to another club member about a week ago, it was almost done , just needed to be sanded and covered, I'll be talking to him also ,If he isnt going to "really" finish it. I'll try to pick it up also...JW

Saw my first AW 260 fly on Sunday. I did not get my hands on it, but it flew pretty well. The owner is not yet a 3D pilot. For him I think it's a great plane. It is heavier than the Mojo and a few others. But also more rugged. I would not trade my Fusion for it, but it's a nice unit.

The heavier they are the harder they hit! Does the Aeroworks have a tube in the fuse? I don't know anything about it but I would be surprised if it is more durable than Swany's planes.

Yeah, there's a carbon fiber tube in it.

There's not a tube in the aeroworks model. I visited their warehouse and talked to one of their reps.

No tube in the fusalage of a profile 3D plane is BAD. If you did this with an Aeroworks you would be picking up the pieces in a plastic trash bag.

I inquired with AW whether they had a CF or glass epoxy tube in their fuse for the prox260. They replied they did not put one in as they believed that the traditional balsa ply structure gave better rigidity. May be its good I didnt pick-up this profile

Here is a video of me playing with the .46 size.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8pkAEsmxMq0

Its a fun airplane and can take a hit without just folding in half as suggested.

Ahhhh sorry dude, no way is the overpriced AW more durable than a Mojo, Primo or Burrito for that matter. I would not waste my money on this ARF. IMHO, a person is better off building one of Swany's planes cause the time will come when it either needs a freshen up or a minor dork fixed and you will have the knowledge, materials and skill to make a beautiful/confident repair job. Knowing what is in a plane and how it got there goes a long way in the end....plus, a decent builder can have a Mojo, Primo from box to air in less than two weeks working only spare time in the evenings!
