CT 3D Throwdown 2011
Hey Fellas!
Just wanted to give you all a heads up on an early season 3D Throwdown/Fly-in in the Northeast! Right now we are scheduled for the weekend of April 16th and 17th, 2011 and will be hosted by the Salem R/C Propbusters in Salem, CT (Directions soon to follow and to be added to this original post).
The event will be open to all types of 3D Aircraft (from foamies to Giant Scale) and will also be open to 3D Helicopters! The location for the event is one of the nicest flying sites in Connecticut and has both Airplane and seperate Heli fields and tons of room!
The goal is to have a laid back weekend of 3D flying to get everyone's fingers warmed up for the upcoming season, as well as a prelude to heading to Joe Nall in the following several weeks, as many of us Northerners do!!! Food will be available at the event and there is room for RVs (no onsite hookups - please reach out to me ahead of time so that I can plan accordingly).
Basic info so far:
-AMA required
-$20 landing fee for the weekend
-Flight line open from 9am till dark with after hours electric flying and night Helis allowed
The field address is 475 Norwich Rd, Salem, CT. I will also post the field coordinates as soon as I have them.
Hotel Information:
Motel 6: 4 King Arthur Drive/269 Flanders Rd, Niantic, CT 860.739.6991
Sleep Inn: 5 King Arthur Drive, Niantic, CT 860.739.1994
Hilltop Inn: 256 Flanders Rd, Niantic CT, 860.739.5462
Mohegan Sun Resort and Casino: Mohegan Drive, Uncasville, CT 888.777.7922
All hotels listed are 10 mins or so from the field.
There are a ton more hotels in the area. If you are searching around, towns to search are Niantic, Norwich, Waterford, New London, Old Saybrook, and East Lyme. Those towns all surround Salem where the event will be.
More info to follow in the coming months, but I wanted to get the notice out as soon as possible so pilots could plan accordingly!
