.46 Thunder Tiger and 3D Airplane
BRW
I am at half throttle with my TT .46. The magic extra is around 5 lb and it indeed is at half throttle. Pulls out like a rocket, and flys almost as fast vertical as it does horizontal.
I spin a 12.25x3.75 at 13,500 rpm with my MCP and it is set up to have more torqe and midrange than is set up for peak.

Ok guys...I was pretty wrong there. Sorry...Heh, I'd delete my last post but I'll let it be known that I am an idiot.
Anyway...
How much of a gain does that Rossi pipe really give you?
I just can't bring myself to spend as much on a muffler as the engine costs.
I'm just using the Tower Hobbiese muffler and power is definitely sufficient, but will that Rossi pipe or a MCP really give me a big increase from that?
DMUCOP,
Just send me an email at [email protected] when you want to get together and fly the Sledge. You will love it...
Or I guess if you just want to pop over to Longview if you can, I'll be there today.
Let's just hope I don't kill it!

I put a MCP on another TT 46 Pro that I had in a 4*40. I wantyed to do a test all in one day to the results were meaningful
TT .46 Pro
15% Nitro
Stock Muffler w/o baffe and w/ Stinger drilled out to 3/8"
10x7 APC
13800 max
Same engine
Same Fuel
1.75"x6.5" MCP 9/32" K&S Aluminum Stinger 1" inside and 1" outside
Same Prop
15000 Max
Same engine
Same Fuel
1.75"x6.5" MCP 9/32" K&S Aluminum Stinger 1" inside and 1" outside
10x6 APC
15900 Max
I know these are no Fun Fly Props but you will be spinning 11.5x4, 12x4 and 12.25x3.75 props similar RPM's.
Throttle response was great after a bit of low end needle tweaking.
The engine was super quiet at all settings but full throttle.

Its a very simpe design:
1. After emptying the contents throughly use a pair of diagnal cutter to carefullt unroll the crimp in the metal can cap.
2. Pull the cap out.
3. Get some aerotrend 1 1/8" OD coupler cut a 1" piece.
4. Get a pressure fitting and install it at the end of the curve in the front of the MCP.
5. Cut 1 1/2" off the end of your header pipe.
6. Put the 1" piece of coupler in the MCP. It will be a bit of work but it will go in.
7. Lube the inside of the couple and the 1 1/2" piece of header with fuel and slide the header piece in to the coupler. It my take a few tries but you should end up with 1/2" of coupler and pipe in the MCP.

The coupler and header are such a tight fit in the MCP that you will not need zip ties.
8. For .32 to .40 engines get a 1/4" alloy tube. For .46 to .53 get a 9/32 or a 5/16" tube.
9. Drill a hole in the center of the bottom of the can for your stinger. Make sure the stinger is a tight fit in the hole.
10. The following set is done with a full size tube. Do not cut the stinger to length yet. Sand the stinger with 320 grit to give the JB weld a surface to grab. Mark a line in the singer 1" from one end of the tube.
11. Mix some JB weld. Put it on the line you marked on the stinger pipe. Just a little bit not too much.
12. Slide the long end of the stinger tube through the MCP and pull it out the hole in the bottom until you see the line you marked. This put a fillet of JB weld inside.
13. Put some JB weld on the bottom of the can and form a fillet for the stinger.
14. Eyeball the stinger about 100 time until you are sure its aligned. Set the pipe stinger up on your bench over night.
15. 24 Hours later cut the stinger to 1" (or whatever size you like). If some JB weld from the inside rain into the stinger tube run a drill bit through to clear the opening.
16. Mount the header on your engine, use a piece of couplet to join the pipes, zip tie the joints and your done!
This is not an original idea. Its a combination if several diffrent MCP designs that I have seen here on RCU into one that works and looks good.

I used a White Rain Mousse can. It is 1.75" in diameter and 6.5" long from the base to the top of the can. I buy them for $1.49 each at my local drug store. I will post a pic of the complete system tonight.

I have two great combos with this engine. First is the SPA3D with mousse muffler (the one u use the front part of stock muffler) and the second is with a limbo dancer (very similar to modeltech magic) with tower muffler. They both fly very well and the engines are more than enough power to fly, 3d and u call it.

RE: .46 Thunder Tiger and 3D Airplane
I'm surprised with all the talk about the Morris Sledge that nobody has brought up the OMP Edge (Ohio Model Products)! The kit only costs $60 and it flies just as good if not better than the Morris Sledge...and from the weights I'm hearing, it builds up lighter too! I had (5) standard Futaba servos, 1250 mah NiMh battery, Aluminum Gear instead of Wire, and a Magnum .52 4-Cycle engine in mine...and it still only weighed 4 1/4 lbs! I got a Thunder Tiger Pro .46 in mine now because the Magnum started losing power (I think I pushed it to hard during break-in), so it should be a couple ounces lighter now. I was using a Tower muffler for the extra RPM. But have since went back to the standard Thunder Tiger muffler and an APC 11.5x4 prop...as this combo has more than enough power to recover from any hovering mishaps. It's ALLOT quiter now too! The APC 12.25x3.75 is fine if you just want to get the most thrust out of the engine...but it doesn't spool up as well as an APC 11.5x4 on this engine if you need to recover quickly. I was told from the original owner of my OMP Edge that a 12x4 Zinger cut down to 11.5x4 works even better, but haven't tried that one out yet.
...Just some thoughts from a happy OMP Edge & TT Pro .46 owner and user!
P.S. - If you haven't heard of the OMP Edge before...do a search! You won't find a bad thread out there...at least not one that I'm aware of?
