Funtana Motor
Hey Gary. Glad to see a fellow Floridian on this forum again, I'm up here in Ocala. I've got an H9 Funtana with the Saito 72 and it seems to be pretty good. I've, over time, taken the cowl, wheel pants, and spinner off to move the CG rearward instead of moving the battery at the field. So my Funtana is flying pretty light right now. I've still got the 72 very rich and I think if I was to do it again I would opt for the Saito 91 over the 72. The 72 does the job but i could definetly see the need for more power. It's a great all around plane though. It definetly likes a 4 stroke.

Gary,
I just went through the same dilemma. I bought and installed a .72 for it. My plane came out @ 6lbs 1oz. So The .72 is enough for almost anything on this plane. It just didn't inspire me to do anything down low, because even tho the power is enough, in my opinion it isn't enough for me to get myself out of trouble down low. Hovering takes almost full throttle with out much reserve to pull out. That is with a 13-4W prop and wildcat 15%. I'm sure it would have been better with a 14-4W and 30%, but I can't see spending the extra money for as much as i fly. So to make this long story short I'm in process of installing my saito 100 right now and should have it ready by this weekend.

Iv'e got 20 flights on mine with a well broke in .72. I have tried both the APC14*4W and the APC13*6. I run 15% Powermaster.
It will hover with either. I prefer the 14*4W. It takes 2/3 throttle to hover were the 13*6 takes 3/4 or more. This is sufficient but it wont blast up out of a hover like this same motor did on a Pizzaz.
If I had to do it all over.?.???? I would put two elevator servos in the tail, move the rudder servo mid-fuse on a pull-pull and put a Saito 1.00. later daveo

Saito .72 here, Zinger 14x5 wood prop, hovers at 2/3 throttle. With an APC 14x4W it hovers at 1/2 on 30% but I like the spool up of the wood prop much better... Zinger just came out with a 14x4 wood and I picked mine up yesterday, eager to try it tonight, thinking this will be the ticket

Just finished flying with my newly installed saito 100. I'm very pleased. This is a vast improvement over the .72. With a 15-4W prop the plane will now hover at about 3/8's throttle. The additional weight has not seemed to diminish any of the planes flight stability. In fact I had to add 4oz to the left wing tip to get it to lateral, something i should have done in the first place. Parachutes are now rock solid with about 60 degrees of elevator. Infact now I have to really try to get it to drop the right wing. The only downside now is the flight times. Iwas able to get approx. 8 minutes out of the tank with maybe an ounce in reserve. I still need to play with the cg abit. It needs a touch of elevator to fly inverted. I prefer it to climb slightly inverted. Love this plane!

Hi Guys, I've read all the Funtana threads with interest and have come to the conclusion that the Saito 100 is the way to go.
Only problem is that a Saito 100 comes in at around £270 here in the UK, plus 30% fuel would be around £25 a gallon!! We're pretty much stuck with 5% here :-(
Sooo, I have this brand new TT 61 Pro doing nothing. It weighs 21 ozs without the muffler. The muffler is another 8 ounces. So I figured I'd get the BCM Pitts style muffler which weighs 3 ounces, and fit that for an all up motor weight of 24 ounces.
The TT should turn a 14 x 4 or maybe more okay.
So what do you guys think?

You definaltly don't need 30% for the 100 in the funtana. I'm using 15% wildcat. The 61 shouldn't be too bad tho. I'm sure it will have plenty of power for the plane. A friend of mine maidened his chief aircraft passion this morning with a HB 61 which is a not a ball bearing motor. The passion is about the same weight as the funtana and it flew great and had lots of power.

Thanks for the input guys. I just put it out as a new thread in the hope someone has experience of the same.
Even 15% here is a stupid price. You couldn't really use it on a regular basis. The Saito's too are just soooo expensive. Too expensive to stuff that's for sure!!
Just hope the TT thing can work okay.
