Default Knife edge spins???

I am not sure if this will help you or not but go to the horizon hobby website and somewhere in there they have an article telling you how to do alot of the 3D manuvers.

Default Knife edge spins???

Example, go vertical as if you're going to do a hammer turn to the left. As the plane slows and stops, you hit the left rudder for your hammer turn. As the plane rotates thru the hammer turn (about 1/2 way), go full down elevator with full power. Lots of throw on elevator makes it easy.
OR, do an inverted flat spin. While spinning, over compensate with ailerons so the plane falls out of the flat spin into a knife edge spin. Again lots of throw helps.

Hey engine, just take the plane vertical, and as the planes falls left or right at the top of vertical.... add rudder opposite to the direction of fall (same inputs as a knife edge), now add aileron in the same direction as the rudder and add full down elevator with power-on. As the plane starts the spin, you can take out just a hint of the aileron input and the plane will really start spinning in the perfect knife edge attitude.

Default Knife Edge ?

An easy and proven method from Dave Patrick's Wring it Out tapes:

Enter a conventional spin making sure the plane is stalled when entering (no snap-rolls into the spin). From upright use full up elevator / left aileron / left rudder. Once spinning hold the rudder and ailerons and reverse the elevator to full down. Adding throttle will make the knife edge spin faster. Be aware the plane will drop altitude quickly so allow plenty of altitude. Recovery is normally quick since the plane is moving fast.

Good luck with this as it's a really fun thing to do when spectators are watching as few have seen this done.

I just take my plane on a 90 degree up line ... bleed off throttle until it stalls ... do half a hammerhead to right ... just before the plane goes horizontal to ground, slam both sticks up and to the left ... instant knife edge that drops like a rock and spins on the wing axis.

Warning ........... do the maneuver at VERY high altitude. When it falls, it falls WAY fast.

Default Knife edge spins???

Another suggestion that works with my 29% Edge. Get the plane in a tight inverted flat spin and then reverse the rudder at a moderate pace, i.e. don't slam the stick over.

Believe it or not I learned this on a simulator and was able to recreate it on the Edge. I haven't been able to get this to work on my UCD yet.

I just neutral the sticks at an altitude for a slow recovery. Plane's nose drops as it stops spinning. Pull back and level out. I agree, done too close to the ground, the recovery is a hand full. Every plane recovers differently. Just get to know YOUR plane and its characteristics.

I think if you reverse the ailerons, you will make some kind of a blender. Anybody agree ??

What I have found is that if I am doing a knife edge spin and I suddenly reverse the ailerons from left to right, the plane goes into a wicked snap spin. I highly recommend you go to half throttle at the start of the snap spin. If your plane has ANY weak structures, doing this maneuver will exploit them. I broke a fuse in half on a Tower Hobbies Fun 51 doing this. Was fugly.

If doing the tip spin just reverse the rudder, instant flat spin, same thing I guess.... Its fun to get really high, go into a tip spin or do a blender, then go from one manuever to the other a couple times making a few turns of each and end it in a elevator

John

Try this on for size...
5 feet altitude, plane traveling down wind at JUST above stall speed ... pop it up into a wall then instantly push over to an outside 3/4 waterfall ... stop the waterfall at 90 degree upline sticking it into a prop hang ... add a bit of power and then z-bend over the top ... exit the maneuver at 10 feet altitude

Now that has a HIGH pucker factor and looks cool as hell.

Rick

PS

When did you change your avitar? Didn't it used to be a picture of a Ford SVO Mustang?

Ive done the manuever, but I dont know what a z bend is, and it was at about 100', I cant afford to replace my plane right now so I do a few manuevers a bit high...

It used to be my race car for my avatar, now its my super sukhoi

A true Z-Bend is best explained as a wall to a push over. Instead of doing the wall and then climbing straight up, you do a fast wall then immediately push the plane over on its wing axis and exit horizontal like a z-bend in a push rod.
