3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
Hi,
I am finally retiring a old & much suffering GP Reactor 46 and need a new 3d capable airplane for the FS91SII. I don't want to go profile, want a full fuse airplae. Please suggest

The Katana suggested is a good idea but find one fast since H9 closed it out with super low prices recently. I think a lightly built Yak of about 60"-65" wingspan would be a winner for that engine. Jon

May I suggest you best 3D propeller?
For Os 91SurpassII-P,
I use one APC 16X4W instead of classic 14X6 APC.
More trust and less fast.
I got this 4cycle in my GP Extra 60 ( balsa Kit ) 3300 gr. .
It's great 3D and hovering performer.

RE: 3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
I have the airplane with a 15x4 apc. Flies sports quite nicely but struggles to lock into hover. Even the more experienced pilots struggled with it. Its been through numerous hard landings during the period I had problems with a 55ax & a 75ax and has a lot of internal structure missing.
I have a cmpro quest 50 which is said to be 3d capable. The seagull edge 46 is just sports and I am trying to pass it on. I dont think I can get the H9 Katana but lit me see. Isint the GP extra 60 kit incapable of 3d? Did you modify it during building?

Well, there is no Katana on the Horizon website. I went through GP's catalog and unless I go for the 580 Chapman Eagle or something, there is nothing there either.
The AW Extra / Yak 60-90 are just too expensive (~$600 landed) and not worth it in my opinion.
There was a GW Sbach available locally but I missed out on that.
I have the Cmpro Quest 50 55", another Reactor 46, a Seagull Edge 540 46 and a Phoenix Topstar 60 in boxes and I had a GP Extra 330SP 55" which I have since sold on. I had also put up the Edge for sale mainly as it is a sports airplane only but there are no takers as yet. The Quest I feel to be quite small and the Topstar (Same as UCD 60 but shorter) I dont want to open just yet coz I am preparing an older Topstar for a dle20. Also, the Topstar is a but 'mushy' for 3D, just fun fly.
The Extra I sold off to a fellow flier is still in the box with him. Should I consider buying it back?

RE: 3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
the GP" U can do "is not that great .. and that matt champman Edge is really a sport plane in that size
you'd be better off with a 60 size primo if you want to really 3D .. a
" U can do" has some bad happbits i mean you can 3D it but .. its just not nearly as forgiveing and has coupling and some other funky things ...
the Primo is stronger also ... if you happen to do some harrier landdings or grab a wing tip in a low roller ..
I would never harrier land a U can do ... never... ...
good luck with whatever airplane you chose ..these are just my openioins

RE: 3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
Hi,
In 2008-9 I did fly the original UCD 60 a bit. Was impossible to hover, probably because of its longer. The Phoenix Topstar is shorter, coming from a Tiger 40, I was able to hover it in just a couple of weekends. However, I has never able to slow roll it. I used the same 91 in 2010 on the same airplane to return to positive flying after a long period of engine problems. But I was using standard servos, so the response was hopelessly sluggish for high alpha rolls. Then I moved to a Phoenix Extra whith a DLE20 which was overweight for 3D and subsequently had to quit flying for a year due to health issues. I never picked up the maneuver so far. I am just getting back to flying with a Reactor Bipe and a 110A, its a fun airplane to fly and 3Ds well but is a pain to assemble, always starts backwards, always needs a starter etc.. I need to put the 91 on a second airplane that I can fly as a Sunday flier when I dont feel like putting the Bipe together or when there is a truncated flying session

RE: 3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
That was 2008. Now I can hover it.
The point I was trying to make is the UCD will be a step backward.
How about the new Phoenix Extra 60 64"?

RE: 3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
How about a plane with 1000 square inches that only weighs 5 1/2 pounds? The light wing loading makes it easy to harrier upright and inverted, and at 5 1/2 pounds, a 91 four stroke will have a good thrust to weight ratio. Knife edge performance is really awesome, and tight knife edge loops can easily be done with a 91 four stroke. Hovers and torque rolls are very easy. Flat spins, waterfalls, knife edge spins, and blenders are a piece of cake with this plane. All this, and the plane is super durable too!
Oh.......wait...........this plane is a Mojo 60 profile, and you were wanting something that looks good instead of a plane that would be a great 3D flyer with an OS FS91SOII.
Nevermind.

RE: 3d capable airplane for OS fs91SII
No Dave. Its getting the Mojo built, thats where the issue is. I am a decent builder but I just dont have the space. Plus I also have back problems. Thats why ARF. I looked at the AW 260 Profile as well (thats a ARF) but just too expensive to get here
I am thinking I shelve the FS91SII for some time if the Topstar (UCD 60) works out well with the DLE20. A lot depends on that build and I am about 70% through with it
