Folks
All I can say is that we are working on it....
I hope that we will have some kits vefore the end of the year.... I had the sample wing tubes turn up last week and they are beautifully made.
edible... the design is such that the canopy attached to a fixed fuz. There is nothing of course to say that you can not make the mods yourself to put in an inner frame and make it removeable.
interesting thought though...

thanks.id like the removable canopy as it would ease access to things between flights like charging if youve got one of those big JR switchs with the built in charge soket which look real ugly on the side of the fuz.
from the design would it be hard to modify it?????
is there any chance of reserving a kit for when it comes out?

hi Dave. I was thinking if the canopy is one unit like this one on a GP extra
I saw it on Naths funtana i think and there wers 4 tabs with for screws holding it on so it would come off in one big lump

"one big lump"
thats the problem...
C140ex is all about keeping weight to a minimum.
As Dave says, it can be made removeable by not permanently fixing it in the first place.
and the switch.... there are other places you can mount that..
reserve a kit?
when we are ready a pre order list will be opened and will be announced in the newsletter.

Another query:
I have only had one plane with plug in wings before (the little Capiche 20), and it was a disaster. Basically I have no idea how to attach plug in wings so that they are easy to connect and stay put (the forces will be high on any 3D plane)
Will the instructions detail how to do it, and will the kit contain the required accessories to do it (or have them separately available at least)?

My Katana s-180 (1.8mtr) had plug-in wings, they slotted onto a 1"od ally tube, and were held in place by two wacking great springs that went through the fuz, and held the wings in place. Even on full chat with a 30cc up front, they never budged once.

Sprink
It will fit like a glove !
All the bits you need will either be in the kit or available, and the holes for the wing tube socket are pre made so the most complicated bit should be putting a slight angle on the root rib so it fits the fuz nicely when accounting for dihedral.. but we will probably do a jig for that to take the guess work out.
There will be NO comparison to the baby one...

Sprink. A pictures worth a thousand words
Main spar is carbon and goes though both wings and fuzz. The 6mm carbon you can see at front and back are bonded in the fuzz with just 15mm sticking out thes two set the incidance spot-on. Each wing has a 300mm outer tube and same for the fuzz (150mm)
the wings are fed onto the live inner tube one each side and tie wrapped inside the fuzz.
As graham has already said you could use a spring ay Sprink
Make any sense now?

RE: Capiche 140 EX and IC version
You trust a tie wrap to hold them together? I know that they are surprisingly strong, but didn't think they are that strong.
As for the springs, a mate uses them on his Funtana. Hell of a job getting them on and off (big springs!!).
Well I'll have to wait until I get one to see what it is all about. My name will be down on that pre order list quicker than you can say "he wants a Capiche 140"

The load is on the tube not the tie wrap. I have been known to take off with out putting one on!! I was lucky but if you think about all the time there is load on the wing the tube is being held by friction. Down side is vibration from YS so wings were a little loose when I landed that day.

hmmm never quite like the idea of springs,
tie wraps seems a bit fiddly in a narrow fuselage ? particularly on a cold winters day.
how about using nylon bolts, with the head of the bolt glued behind the root rib, the shank of the bolt passes through the rib and through the fuse side and secured with a nut ? Serves also as an extra incidence peg too.

The C140 is not a narrow fuselage. The original was built to fit a 1/4 scale Cap 232 cowl, so it is actually quite wide.

RE: Capiche 140 EX and IC version
i think Malc spoted it (i kept quiet!!) but the first flight at the freestyle comp was without the tye wrap!! (i forgot to put it on!)
it takes between 2 and 5 seconds to put the tye wrap on ( and 1 second to remove with a pair of side cutters)
not fiddly at all, as there are semi open hooks on the wings you just join the tye in your hand outside the model and hook it over the eyes and pull it semi tight (can be a bit loose as the only load on it is the weight of the wing in Knife edge flight)
if you cannot do that in a 6 1/2" wide and 10" deep fuselage you must have bananas for fingers!!
I am probably the only person to own 2 Capiche 140s and i would not have it any other way.
Baron, Tye wraps it is..... The Boy has spoken
over and out.

RE: Capiche 140 EX and IC version
As it happens I agree totally with you Dave I have made the new wing with extended return loops to faciltate the use of smaller and easier to use T wraps.
They would be the ones you left off at the Freestyle
I was refering to "When" I owned a 140 (Ali's) I did the same. Mine was probably at a little more risk than yours as your Hacker don't shake like a 140L
The whole action of a tie wrap pulling the wings to the fuzz has got to be right.
That would make you a "Lucky D" then

philly
you worry me !
anyone who can afford to equip a 140ex even with the most economic gear...can afford to dispose of a tie wrap per flying session !
next thig you will be teeling me I should cut cost on wings by using less wood !
