Default It's Not Hype, New Info VS. Flip 3D 9/22

I got me a new plane, Weston Hype 3D.

Got it a few weeks ago, just in time for the Nashville Pro Bro. Test hop on the plane
was short lived, rudder cable snaped and landed.

On the way to the Pro Bro, Tex 3D and I stop to fly in Memphis with some of the
Pro Bro's.

At first the motor was having issues, new OS 8 and it has run great since then.

This thing is a 3D'n Machine, as good, if not better in some aspects, as the Flip 3D.
As many of you know, I am a big fan of the Flip. Some of my 3D Brothern in
Europe have had them and spoke highly of them.

The most amazing waterfalls you will ever see, including a horizontal waterfalls.
Snaps like a realy plane, does super tumbles, fantastic knife edge with little
coupling, knife edge loops, fast roll rate, and full pull pop's on the elevator and
the nose just stands straight up with NO droping of a wing, good inverted flat
spins kinda got an climbing one, does a tornado and it hovers sweet.

Set up:

West 50 T1. Strong motor and the throttle pipe works great. Eat's plugs, so far.
Ritch's Brew 15% plyon fuel, APC 12.25-3.75 spins @ 12,300. I backed it up to
12,100 becasue the motor is new. Plently of power for hovering and punch it and
POW!! it pulls out with no hesitation.

Weight came to 5lb.s 4 oz's. I have a brand spanking new Flip and it weights
the exact same with a Irvine 53.

The plane goes together in a snap. Install radio, motor, glue hinges, glue on stab's
and thats about it. Only a few hours. There are pull-pull's for the elevator and
rudder. Now that took 4 hours to set ups [:'(] Those servos are mounted under
the wing and with the battery and Rx as far back as possible, I still added 1 ounce
of weight to the tail and I may still do some more.

This is a good flying plane, too. Very patternish. Snaps so well. Just don't get
it too fast, I have had the elevator give me the "TOO FAST" indication. I did
put carbon fiber on the bottom of the stab and the tail has not broken. I have tried.
Parachutes stop fast, just gotta do some ajustments to get the harrier better.

Good looking, too. I know some folk's have a issue with the looks of the Flip
and UCD, this looks like a pattern ship.

BTW, I did cut off the wingtips and recovered the end rib, so it really has very
pretty wingtips.

One to look into for the 3D Freak.

My first post on the New RCU and the photos were taken by others at the Pro Bro,
I will try to get some addition photos.

Thanks YNOT! Looks MUCH better than the new Lanier ARF. I've got a great running Webra w/ tuned pipe needing a home, can they be purchased without the motor?

I am getting more impressed with the Hype every time I fly it.

Not sure of the exact mesurments of the CG. I still need to push a bit inverted,
however does everything very well.

The belly pan..........well, I have not glued it on, because I want the carbon fiber
belly pan. So I just tape it on. That happened the first flight Sunday morning at
the Pro Bro and I just didn't do a goob job. So I re-taped it and never came off.

mmmmmmmm i still think your bonkers for chopping the tip off it, least you put cool covering were you cut them[>:]

Also, get the APC 13x4w prop, noticbly more powerfull and dont be tempted to go over 15%nitro, according to weston UK, there designed for 5-15% fuel as to all us brits nitro is expencive

You can buy just the plane without the motor. I don't know how much, cause it
doesn't show on the website. Just call or email them.

southern_touch9

If you can get hold of them in the States, that'll be the best way to do it, but if you have to get one shipped from over here, then its 150 pounds minus the tax (17.5%) plus whatever it cos for the shipping.

TIA

Now THAT's a good question, Stomper! I know what was in it at Nashville, we'll se what YNOT comes up with. (This is sort of an inside joke between me and YNOT, so don't feel offended if you feel left out...)

You will want to run some strong servos on the alierons becasue they are very large. For the Elevator and rudder, I'm just using good corless BB serovs. Not really sure what I have in there. And I'm running 6 volts.

The motor has not ate a plug in the past 10 runs. The plug that came with the motor would run the motor on the ground and it would die in the air. I am also using 15% fuel, I undersatnd they are made for low nitro and 15% MAX.

Not at all.

So do you guys think 54oz is enough for all surfaces? Or should I go even higher? The servos I'm thinking about using are JR 811.

Thanks

54 on the ailerons will not be enough, I am 100 oz's +.

For the tail you will want to be in the 90's if possible.

i've seen 3003's used on the surfaces, the ballraced version would be a better option[], the new 3010 would be ok, esp on 6V, it's not designed for high speed so all singing dancing super servos arn't the be all and end all. as always get the best you can reasonably afford.

( im noticing a big diffrence between what a brit will put in a plane and a yank, do we just say you WILL do the job Mr servo, or is US air denser? )

Choppy ( the Hypes designer ) dented his last weekend when his engine quit mid hang, he "re-designed" the tail he also had someone fly through his Cougar, killed his heli also, all hes got left is Magnum 001!

Would you now say that the Hype is in the same class if not superior to your Flip????
