Default 1/2in epp too thick for 31x31"?

I found some plans for a yak 54 and printied em out, this is the plane I want to make, but the guy had a slighty (unsure how much smalled never seen specs) smaller ver using 9mm epp.

Lows and I think it was home depo have 1/2in 4' by 8' sheets of epp (might lose a couple mm removing the uhh plastic cover thing)
for about $10 with taxes!
vs 12x36" for about $16 and ill need a second one for the other half of the plane, then some for elevator.

Is this too thick for a 31x31inch yak 54?
I do wonder how much the plane would weight, but no idea
would there be a noticable amout of wind resistince? (I could probably try making the wings more aero)
what about throws n whatnot?

Thanks,
Higgins909

I've never seen EPP at a hardware store. They will have EPS or some form of styrene foam. These are way more brittle than EPP. It's also heavy in comparison to 9mm EPP.

even if it was 9mm EPS or styrene foam?

Yeah, I realised it didnt say epp when I went to go looking on the website again (said Polyisocyanurate)

The easy way to tell if it's EPP is to bend it a sharp 90 degrees. EPP will bend, anything else snaps or shatters.

I got some today and tested some of the scrap, the film stuff was still on, I bent it a whole 180o then let go and it went right back then 180 the other way and almost 180o and it snaped (loud pop) XD I think the wrapping film thing will make it more durable, made my wings so far 31" (all I had time to cut, bed time) at 3.2 oz.
The whole sheet of 1/2in by 4ft by 8ft weighed somthing like 3.22lbs, and its enough for 4-4.5 planes of 31" by 31"

I estimate the plane with just foam to be 6.5oz (184g)
then my 39g 2s 800mah
motor est 30g (still deciding)
servos 3-4 11.1g or 14.8g
receiver 8g
rough estimate 300g

Thanks for responding,
Higgins909
