RE: Hovering Funtana
I was flying my Funtana 40S with a DA 150 till it just couldn't hover it. I am changing motors. ZDZ 210. I am really hoping it will do it. All up weight is 33.5 lbs. with the redundant system. 36 servos total. I was wondering how to get the weight down. Any help would be great. Oh I have a taller gear on it as well. I made it in the machine shop. 16" tall plenty of prop clearence.
Take care

Now this depends on what orientation you are going to mount the engine in... if you are going to put it sideways so the head sticks out the right side of the cowl and the muffler goes down, you will need to put all the radio gear in the left wingtip to couterbalance the engine cylinder. WES Tec micro servos should work well, although you will probably want to mount them in the left wingtip as well and run a pully setup to pull-pull style controls on the rudder and elevator through the root of the wing. Only use a 4.8 volt pack on these servos too, 6 volts will likely tear the hardpoints out of your elev and rudder on quick reflex moves with all the torque. Good luck, I am just getting my ripped apart airplane fixed and hope to be 3D'ing the wild .10 soon

Will it balance OK with this set up? Or should I put all of the radio gear in the tail, not just the elevator servos?

I know this is getting a little off the subject, but I have searched for threads on this and couldn't find any and this seems to be a good thread for a question like this...
This may seem like a silly question....but has anyone ever tried installing the prop backward and hovering a Funtana with the tail up and the nose down? Would installing the prop back wards be enough--do I also have to start the engine back wards. Will I need more power because loss of efficiency? Please post pictures if anyone has done this.

just because the prop is on back wards doesnt mean it will blow backwards. all it does when you turn the prop around is make the good edge that should be going the other way go back wards. if you want to go backwards you have to get a reversed prop.

The plane is gonna rip apart with that cox .049.Try a Cox .0000000000000049 at idle. Just make sure you get those big 500 oz servos for the engine. And the rudder elevator and ailerons need 100000000000 oz servos just to fly. Just worry about getting that nex 1x 1/2 prop from apc, and keep it at idle so u dont shoot upwards and break the fuse in half.

Here are some never-before-seen spy pics of my 3D nightmare motor... the COX TOC edition .098, which is an engineering marvel of not one, but TWO fire-breathing, nitro eating, firewall dismembering twin geared full competition nitrous injected EFI .049's. This engine is NOT recommended for anything less than full competition use by trained professionals. I think this is the same engine DMehalko(DM) is running on his. I think my Funtana is about to meet its maker...

Abraxxas, you can't do that. A twin on this thing? What if it catches on? Everybody will want to overpower their planes. This is crazy! Please, please, please, say it ain't so. Not to mention if you put a 2 oz. tank on it, at the reduced throttle you are going to have to hover at, you will be taking up the middle of the runway for over an hour!!!!!!
Oh no, this can not be allowed. Shame on you for starting something like this. Bad, bad, bad.

Im afraid I don't know the owner of this eligante machine, but I reckon it wud be about right, especially with the 2 servos per elevator half and 4 on the rudder!!
I think he put the 2 3000mah 5 cell packs up the front under the tank!!!

RE: Hovering Funtana
After much research I finally found the perfect solution to hover the funtana. I scrapped the front engine setup all together and epoxied a main rotor from a ratpor 60 on the top of the fuse. I ran a DA50 for power. The first flight I noticed that the plane would easily flat spin, but it still wouldn't hover really well so I cut away the rudder and mounted a tail rotor in the rear. Now I can hover til the cows come home . My next project will be to scrap the wings since they aren't generating much lift anymore and mount the whole fuse to a 12' jon boat I have sitting in the shead for a float project. A word of warning to anyone trying this project. Make sure you use high torque micro servos to keep the weight down, and take the evinrude off the back of the jon boat before mounting the fuse so that it won't be tail heavy. haaaaarrrr

ROFL... I'll bet my TOC .098 would turn that prop perfectly... what style clutch are you using on it? I'll bet that does tail-slide autos beautifully!!

I'm tired of the .72 in mine. The book says .32--.46 range. The 3250ST I have is in that range right? Where can I get a 14x4w eight blade prop.

Try antonov in russia, they seam to like them. but areyou sure your propping it a bit lowly. id get one of the 100" W Eight blade prop with vairable pitch. just to be sure.
what style clutch are you using on it?
just be aware on th econdition of all your servos, use flightly check ups and only ust the bes dimons gears avalible and replace them every 3 flights
im a helpfull kind of guy aint i?
