RE: Hovering Funtana
Since all I do is hover, I don't bother flying with the wings anymore. That saves some decent weight. The gear is gone too...I just hand launch it. With this setup I could easily make due with a single .049 but I like the extra punch of an LA15 (don't worry, I put pins in the firewall).
If you try this, remember to pull immediate up elevator as soon as you let go or you'll be in a world of hurt. That is unless you hand launch inverted...then push man, PUSH!

RE: Hovering Funtana
Hey guys i just put a GWS motor out of my GWS tiger moth in my funtana, and i flew it yesterday. Man she has unlimited vertical at 3 clicks above idle. It was cool untill i was flying staight and level and the tail section desintegrated and the whole plane stated to flutter and within about 5 seconds it EXPLODED!!!!! O well ill just buy a new one. I think ill go for the smaller motor this time.

RE: Hovering Funtana
as for inverted prop hanging its hard i tried it on my magic with a 12-6 pusher and wasted a plane as for the engine for the funtana i like the zdz 160 it really don't have the vertical i looking for so i am going to try the 0s 15 la with a pipe and 30 helicopter fuel [X(] just waiting for the carbon fiber tape to get here to reinforce the firewall

You guys are way off the mark.....I fly one using the motor from my old GWS stick.....goes vertical until its out of sight...( then I just go pick up a new one)....I do rudder bumps all day on just a few battery packs....and I use no fuel!

I have one! It's easy. Just put the prop on backwards and use your fingers to start the engine. Just flip it with 3 fiingers. Or get your 5 year old child to do it for youus.
Damnit ... typing has not been the same snce I trieed to do it.

RE: Hovering Funtana
Thanks for the info on inverted prop hanging the pictures posted are great. I don't know why I could not find the inverted prop hanging threads before, but now I have found them and have read them all. I am more confused than ever. Thanks for the help--this forum is great!
I am not trying to pass this off as an inverted hang, but looking at the picture like this might help me believe that I can do it. I know I have to believe I can do It before my fingers move the sticks correctly.

Can I hover a H9 Funtana on an 0.S. .25 LA that I have lying around here or is it too much engine? Thanks!

OK guys the 3250 isn't enough. Does anyone know how to convert a 440 chrysler to glow?

Harder part is plumbing in the radiator and oil pump. The trick it to take some time and plan it out, that way you can get the exhaust on one side and the radiator on the other, and hopefully they will balance each other out.
No need for a fan though, the prop wash does that job.

Actually, a Hemi works better because with the glow plugs on top of the valve covers, its easier to get the required 8 glow igniters on and off in a timely fashion. I think Sullivan or Dubro is working on a nice light-weight nylon mount for the Hemi, too... so that means less time in the fab shop and more time in the air.

Hey Abraxxas was that a carbon fiber landing gear you were using on your Funtana? If it is who makes it? I'm thinking about changing the gear on mine cause its to short.

RE: Hovering Funtana
It is lighter, taller (they make them in 1.5" taller or 2.5"), stiffer and virtually indestructible. When I put the gear on, I left off the wheel pants, put lighter foam wheels on and #6 black cap screws for axles instead of the 3/4" truck lug nuts that are supplied with the ARF.
Stock gear - 84.7 grams
Fiber-lite - 64 grams ... about 2/3 of an ounce ligher by themselves
Wheel pants - 32 grams
Stock axles - 31.6 grams
Stock tires - 36 grams
Complete stock setup ready to fly - 184.3 grams
My setup as described above RTF - 113.8 grams
for a total savings of...
2.5 ounces

RE: Hovering Funtana
Thanks for the info Brian, I think I'm going to go with that landing gear. I have some pics of my Funtana on www.downonthedeck.com in the pits under Hanger 9 Funtana S 3D with a YS .45 and a tuned pipe. It has plenty of power and right now it weighs 5lbs 10oz. and I'm sure the weight will go down if I change that stock gear.
