H9 FuntanaS 40 landing gear - nylon bolts
Just wondering, I'd like to use nylon bolts on my FuntanaS. Can I just use the same size bolts, except nylon? So then I can re-use the blind nuts or do I have to go a size bigger on both?
I beefed up my landing gear block with thin ply after many recomendations to do so. I just cut a rectangular piece to fit on the floor between the landing gear block and the firewall. Used thick CA to glue it down. Then I put two thin strips of ply over it and the gear block going at right angles using thin CA. It's not going to break there that's for sure.
Thanks,
Joe

Joe, I don't see a reason why you would have to go bigger with nylon bolt's. I would just use the same size bolt and keep the blindnuts, although, you might want to add a third bolt and blind nut of you decide to use nylon bolts so you won't have to worry about them breaking off during a hard landing.

i have yet to tear it off. but if your engine quits in a harrier about 5 feet off the ground that will give the plane time to point the nose down and hit at an angle, that would tear the gear off most planes.

I have got to ask, how in the world do you tear the landing gear off a Funtana?

Hi Joe, I did a hard harrier landing a couple of months ago with my Funtana and the landing gear block snapped away from the fuselage. The wheel pants went through both, the bottom and top of the wing. I was disgusted to say the least. About three hours of work and it was back in the air again. I replaced the soft LG block with aircraft ply and would never use bolts that would break away. That would be inviting another wing covering job. I suppose you will be OK if you aren't hard on your gear, but I am. Just FYI.

Not cockey at all. Just a question. When they first hit the dealers shelves I had the pleasure of flying one. It was the first plane that I had flown that you could line up on final, chop the power and set the radio down and go get a drink. Mine does not land that good, but its close. I have beat mine around real bad doing harrier and elevator landings but have not managed to damage the gear yet.

Set the radio down and go get a drink... please. Come in too slow with that bird and she falls outta the sky like a brick. Hands-free pancake landings will rip gear, pop holes in wings, tears blocks, etc off most arfs. Nylon bolts are the best/cheapest insurance one can buy. Replace the stock with same size nylon and go fly her. Not even sure if you need to add a third.

Some of us fly at almost sea level and don't weight the plane down by trying to trying to make it bulletproof. It really does fly better that way.
I gave myself the handle of bentgear because if there is a way to bust it I will generaly be at the front of the line, so I think can speak with some experience.
