Default DA-50 - Enough power?

I've been looking at the Composite ARF 2.3m Extra and had a look through the recommended engines.
These are the prices I have up to now:
DA-50 £435 (and the mini pipe is about £100)
G-62 £340
G-80 £635

I emailed Glen Fletcher about if the DA-50 would be enough power, and he said that the DA-50 with pipe will give about the same power as the G-62 with the standard pipe, but the G-62 would end up weighing about a pound heavier. He told me that if I could give him an AUW of the Extra minus the motor and prop, he could help me further, so can anybody give me a weight?

Or can anybody tell me if the Extra will have enough power for 3D with the DA-50 + pipe.

Cheers,
Dean

Not sure how much truth is in it but apparently the extra is around 20lb or heavier, all up.

Yeah I was going to wait for the DA-75, but I wanted it up and running asap! I havn't heard good things about the ZDZ.... apparently lots of vibration, but then again I've never seen a model fly with one!

Nope, but I don't want to splash out on the plane if I can't decide what engine to put in it.

I dont know if the DA 50 will have enough power but you may look into a ZDZ 80 or maybe even a 60 might work. I have heard nothing but good things about the 80 although i havent really heard alot about the 60. Im sure that it is just as good as the 80. And yes they vibrate, but dont you think that DA50 will too. They are both big singles and vibration comes with that. But i have heard that they dont vibrate near as bad as what you would think. As far as planes go, If you just have to have a DA 50 i would look at the new WILD HARE EDGE. It looks like a real nice plane. Good Luck with your decision

I would go with the 3W 70 or 75..... Lots of power and smooth running and transition. And the good news is, they are already out...\

You have several good engines out on your side of the pond.
THE ZDZ, 3W, and Moki gas engines are a few.
You can also try the MVVS 58 which may be what you are looking for.

Thanks everyone for the info, I was thinking of the 3W 70 or 75 in the first place, but there doesn't seem to be anyone in the UK who distributes them, Glen only stocks the 100, 150 and 50. I've just spent a couple of hours searching and I still can't find anyone who stocks them - anyone know where I might have some luck? If not I think I'll have to go for the ZDZ.

Thanks again everyone,
Dean

Flair are the UK importer, but be prepared to get ripped off!

Check out the MVVS... supposed to have more power than the DA 50.

If you should decide on the 3W engine, go for the 75, it weighs the same as the 70. I have a 75 and it is a great running engine with great power.

Depends on your flying style. If it is hard 3D, then the max weight the DA 50 wants to play with is 16 pounds or less.consider the elevation also,at which you will fly
