And after one season when those standard servo's are toast......where is the advantage?

I still think the 100 is a little bit of a waste of money inf the fact that my 46 fx with an apf 11.5x3.74 will hover pretty close to half throttle and when i put standard servos in the tail (i need the digitals for my yak coming soon) i will be able to remove a total of four ounces on this thing. the saito 100 is an expensive engine. if you have themoney i dont see why not but not all of us can just spend $300...

Toast? Where? i have had some futaba s3003 servos (plain bushing cheapies) in jy trainer and they have well survived 4 years of active use and there is no slop, no twitching, and centering is still pretty good.

in a trainer of course standard servo's will survive.........put them in a small 3d machine..........it'll eat them for lunch. Learned that last season. I had to replace everyone but throttle servo.

I have a Twist not yet finished and found the motor mount to give me a touch of left thrust, so I sanded the right side mount on the belt sander and straightened it out, then my Saito 72 went on straight. I flew a friends Twist at the field yesterday with a Mag 52 with Tower muffler and it had excessive power but the short tail moment was harder to hover than a UCanDo. It did not have severe coupling issues in knife and did rolling circles just fine. I do not know what his prop was or where his CG was. It did dead stick a couple of times and the glide is good.

Better engine choice for a Twist: Magnum 52 2-stroke or Saito 72?

i was overly not impressed with mine caompared to the funtanas 90 prototype i flew the twist is small and i like a minimum of 65 inch wing and the plane would fall out of hovers and rolls very easily needs some refinment to make it better but the plane does have potential but as i said if you have the extra 70 dollers go buy a funtan or save for the big one you will be much more satisfied

you mean the purple and yellow one? nah. i ma going with extreme flight rc. their recent reputation for amazing quality (they just started shipping their first models like the mini 3d and profile edge a couple months ago) that surpasses all other arfs has got my attention.

?

ORIGINAL: Spaceclam

i am not talking about the funtana, i am talking about the twist. my twist hovers at 3/4 throttle on an 11x5. i get even better performance with an 11.5x3.75 apc. it needed about 4 oz of weight on the nose to get it to balance right, which is because i used digital servos on the tail which are heavier than standard servos (mine anyway) by .5 oz. the entire balance thing depends on leverage. On anything, an ounce of weight 1 foot from the fulcrum (balancing point) is equal to two ounces 6 inches from the fulcrum. curently my cg location is right where it should be, and the distance between the servos and my cg is about 4 times greater than the distance from my weights to the cg, so that means if i went to standard servos i could take 2 oz of noseweight off, which means i will have lost a total of 4 oz, allowing me even more vertical and a lighter weight for better hovering. it's all win-win. the difference between the saito 72 and the os .46 fx is much greater than 2 oz, so while i would be adding power i would also be adding weight. remember it is not about power to weight. you want a good power to weight ratio, but keep weight to a MINIMUM as this is a 3d plane. less weight means more post stall. a saito 100 is not really justified here. this is a very small 40 size plane. the 100 is more for 60 size 3d planes, so you would jsut be askin for it here. remember, they are built light enough that that amount of power could easily rip it to shreads in the air if you put it on. you should really watch your throttle. all in all, i would say that i would rather have 2 oz of weight up front than spend $300, do some major surgery, add weight, power, and a prop large enough that it looks silly swinging there and has enough thrust at idle that you will never get the plane to sit in one place.

RCU will be doing a review on this plane. We are going to have both glow and electric versions of the review. Right now we are planning on the new Saito 82 for power and in the electric version we are still deciding which way to go for that. It will be brushless with lipo's though for sure

I saw it in the LHS and for $99 I thought I give it a whorl. It reminded me of the SIG Something Extra I sold last year but with larger 3-D services. Clean covering thank you Hangar 9- nice product. I will toss a OS 50 FSR I scored on E-bay flood sale Box damage only. Mini can muffler. Hitec and JR servos. I hope it will replace my old SE- I miss it. PS I may have to modify the rudder after reading the reports about hovering it. RCU when will your review come out?

Whoever says this plane is better than the funtana is wrong the only thing this plane does is hover. It does fly real well for general flying and will land itself. But for 3d it doesnt even come close to the funtana. Ive got plenty of power Saito 82 makes it go like a rocket but I wish I had the bought another funtana.

let's keep to the twist. i would like this thread to be a good referance to anyone looking to buy this kind of plane. i have noticed that it does not want to stall. it keeps tracking straight and kind of purpuses instead of just dropping out because it is so light with so much wing. it does not do high alpha maneuvers too well either. but it is fun to zip around with.

OK
I know this is now three pages long, but I was able today to get my Twist/Saito .72 in the air. I bought a JR 6102 radio and made the mistake of setting my throws at 150%. Mind you I have NEVER flown anything but a 40 alpha trainer. When I reliazed what I had done it was too late. I was airborne and flying. I was so close to crashing three seperate times. I got it on the ground without crashing and dropped it to 50% and went again without incident. I in fact had a blast!!!! Touchdown was so gentil I was sure something was wrong.
