I had 2 if these about 2 years ago (with BME 44 engines) Ali had one to, its a bit like flying a big sponge matress.
nice and easy to hover but roll rate was SLOW.

I've had two of these, first one with a zdz40, second with a DA50R. With either engine, Rx and battery needs to be placed in rear of fuse for proper CG. I'm on the waiting list for a BME55X, that would be the perfect engine for this plane. I think that, after assembling my Double Vision and 2.6m Yak55SP, I may just start building one of these from the plans to have ready for when the BME55X becomes available. They fly incredibly light, but I may modify mine for a shorter tail moment.

edible_engine , Is this answer to your questions ?
[link=http://www.paf-flugmodelle.de/Video/mpg/Diablotin.mpg]Video[/link]
Btw Sprink, it is a 44cc... methanol. The plane has been powered by 40, 50, 60cc Zdz and Zenoah 62. I can not speak by experience but I guess it could fly very well with a Moki 2.10 or so. Keep us informed if you try such engine, ty.
If this help, I'll take the time to translate references notes and size annotations.

That's a pretty lame video, who wants to see the dude, twice he he? If you notice, he doesn't have much throw in the elevators and rudder, the model comes only single bevelled. I double bevelled my tail surfaces for 45 degrees of throw each way. The XL does great Elevators, Harriers, Harrier landings, high alpha flying around, rolling high alpha. The weakest part is the rudder counter balance area, I've broken my rudder right in that corner during flight, now I always add a cross of carbon tape on both sides there.

RE: Diablotin XL like... (plan)
well edd. you seen the video!! sponge!!
i got to say i loved mine 2 odd years ago (thats why i had 2) but they are not upto todays standard of plane. Dkjens is right, as standard you get very little movement and you have to double bevell the surfaces. you also need VERY good aileron servos as they get blown back slowing the roll rate even more.

Anybody else with problems with Volo View Express? I downloaded it here at work, but when trying to run/install the file I get a message that it's corrupt. I have AutoCad and SolidWorks at home, maybe I'll just view the plans there.

RE: Diablotin XL like... (plan)
Thank you for all your ARFers' point of vue. May I understand that your denigration comments are constructive ?
The goal of the thread is proposing a FREE plan to guys who want to built a nice flying airplane with low budget or who just like building planes. So we guessed very well that unknown TOC ARFers flyers, representing 10% or less of the r/c modeler park, do not need those plans.
Anyway, Djkens opinion seems a LOT more constructive. I will mind about the fact that it is only single side beveled + to strengthen the counter balanced area and may do the plan modifications as it is ask so friendly.
Also, we are drawing other ARF expensive models for FREE. You will have news soon. funtanas403d, sorry for the Diablotin super. We are working on an other well-known model.
I like to believe that there is still true r/c modelers who likes to share simply their hobby.
Have a good time,
Bogarfield.
p.s.: Sorry for the link of Volo View Express. I'll delete it. Search for a .dwg or .dxf editor. Or better, go and ask a pro to print your A0 plan.

RE: Diablotin XL like... (plan)
I fly the Diablotin Super park flyer w. os46ax and es cf pipe for 3 years now for fun and on showteam - my most favorite combo of all time. 2 years ago I had to have one of these xl's badly, I bought a zdz 40 and was on waiting list for xl when I had an opportunity to fly one that a local guy just got. I was not very impressed, it was like flying a king size air mattress or hot air balloon - the power to weight did not seem to be as good, it was very slow to react - harder to control - very loud. I cancelled my order and put the zdz40 on a pattern plane. I guess you could say it was like a huge boob, I was very excited but it was just too big.
potential problem: a local old timer/expert builder has tried to copy my diablotin super 3 diff times- all 3 planes came in 1-2 pounds heavier which makes a hugh difference in flying characteristic and level of 3d difficulty. he concludes that it is impossible to get real 2lb balsa necessary to keep weight down in this size.
