Default EMWH 2M Funtana PRO!!!

Hi,

I'd just like to share some pics of my new plane for this season. It's a 2M Funtana Pro from Germany, with an SM 30 (30 CC) gas engine and Multiplex Royal Evo 9 radio. I worked on it a lot over the past weekend and it should be done by the mid of June.

THanks

Sebastian

Sweeeeet - its the one with the airfoiled tail. I have a huge crush on this plane. I just can't seem to bring myself to drop $400 on a bloody kit!

How do you like the kit/instructions? Give us some pros/cons, please!

Thanks,
Kurt

I have also a Funtana Pro with a SM30.
The engine is really powerfull (18x8 MenzS, 8500RPM) but I don't get it right.
I have about 15 flights and 15 deadsticks with my new Funtana but the fun is over.
I have tried everything to run it right

Hi Kurt,

Trust me, its well worth the 400$!!! I will also expand on the pros and cons.
Pros:

Pre joined fiberglass cowl, wheel pants and spinner with almost no visible seam
Very thick curved fiberglass landing gear and rear wheel landing gear
Excellent wing jig( building perfectly straight wings is a sinch)
Amazing cut parts and veryyyyy easy assembly
Perfectly cut fiberglass control horns and accesories

Cons:[:@]

Very bad instructions. They were written by a pretty famous german called Olaf Sucker and they are not very good even if you understand German
Some sanding is required on part openings because the round cutting bit leaves a bit of an arc at corners and this causes some square parts not to fit properly

My main tip when building this plane is to take your time especially with the fuselage. The main thing that I would do next time if I was building this plane again would be to make all of the parts fit loosly with no stress. In the fuselage this is very important because most of the bulkheads fit into the sides very tightly. When you assemble the two sides together, this causes the formers to bend very slightly and this puts and unwanted force on the fuselage that makes it want to twist. So basically let all of the partsfit in loosly because this will make the fuselage perfectly straight and later you can fill it in with some light weight filler.

Thanks

Sebastian

Hi coveredup,

This engine was bought due to the fact that gas is cheap compared to methanol and Nitro. I was considering buying a Mintor 1.7 but it would be to expensive to run and maintain.

I attached some pics

Hi adrian-RCU,

Thats a nice FUNTANA I have some questions. How easy is it to hover and what setup are you using? Servos, distance of CG etc..

Didier, what ignition are you using? Are you sure that with an 18*8 prop you're getting 8500 rpm!!! That is quite amazing. I have yet to buy a good prop becasue I have been breaking in the engine with an old Zinger 18*10 wide prop that does not have a good airfoil and I get 6300 to 6400 rpm. Also, I'm using an ZDZ ignition.

Thanks

Sebastian

Those planes are really nice. Sometime ago I have met with a guy here on RCU, who will produce a kit of this plane (slightly changed) and sell it much cheaper

Chesc Boogie,

Ja tesh jestem polakem. Ja sie urodzilem w Glogowu I teraz mieszkam w Canadzie.

This guy that is building this cheaper Funtana has still a lot of work ahead of him. I talked with him and he still has to design the plane and get prices from people that have Laser Cutting sercives. I don't know if it will be much cheaper and I doubt that he will nice cowls and canapies.

Thanks

Hi Didier,

I think I know what's wrong with your engine! My engine while being broken in would sometimes lose power and shut down. This happened occasionally but it made me upset. After investigating I found the problem. Do you still have the original yellow plastic hose going from the crankcase to the carburator? If so that may be your problem. I noticed that that hose was to lose and it leaked air from time to time which cause the carburator to loe pressure and stop delivering fuel properly. After replacing it with a smaller hose that goes on tightly, I have not had a problem since. I have put 1.6 gallons through the engines and it runs perfect. Try it out it might fix your problems. I have attached a pic of the new hose.

Hello Sebastian.

You asked me what sort of ignition I have, well it looks like a 3W ignition only without the "3W decal".
I have already change the line between the carb and the engine but with no results.
I have email correspondation with SM and I will send the engine back to look at it.

Hi,

Well I'm back with my Funtana. Unfortunatelly it's not going to be complete until the mid or end of July. This is because final exams were pretty tough but high school is finally over. I'm starting to work again this week and I've already decided on the equipment needed to finish my plane. I'm going to use the new Multiplex Digi 4 servos. One Titan on each aileron, one Titan for the rudder, one Polo for each elevator half and one Polo for the engine. A KS muffler system with smoke for the exhaust and a Multiplex 9 channel synth receiver. During the past three days I worked on my plane day and night. I mounted the engine on two sets of elastic shocks, I mounted thw cowling and did the cut out for the engine, I mounted the wings to the fuselage, made the servo hatches on the wings, installed the main landing gear, installed the pants, the wheels, installed the rear wheel assembly, started trimming the canopy and started working on the rudder servo placement. I still have a couple more finishing touches but it's looking very good. I attached some pics.

That's pretty cool. I see you had to redo the engine box a little. I'm facing the same thing, that firewall is SMALL.

Great project!

Another engine suggestion would be the 26CC gasser MVVS1.6 with the tune pipe. Menz S 18x8 over 8200RPM at only 3 lbs!
The Funtana has already a tunnel under the fuse to fit the long pipe.
I am using that engine with Bisson pitt muffler but it chokes it. Menz S 17x8, 8000RPM. Very light combo

Hi,

Here's the update. Between working the midnight shift, sleeping and living life this is what I have completed. Remounted the engines on aluminum bars (the elastics were to flimsy, the engine barely idled because it shook so much) mounted the throttle servo with a rubber connection. This will absorb shock and reduce servo damage. Inside the rubber are carbon rods from both ends and in the middle is a gap of 5mm which gives a bit of flex Also mounted the ignition. The good people at KS Germany are building me a custom manifold for my SM 30 with a flex pipe in the middle and they advised me on buying the 70cc muffler because it is very quiet and it's performance will be almost exaclty the same as on a pipe. I also covered the wings on the weekend. Those silver stripes tested my patience![:@] I attached pics.

Enjoy

Sebastian
