gp extra 330l
I am thinking about buying a great planes 1/3 scale extra 330L. Does anyone have information about building the model, engine selection, flying, etc.

GP 330
Its a very good value for the money. I built mine with a ZDZ 80 Boxer in the nose.
It builds very nice but if I were to build it again, I would change the supplied sheeting as it was the heavy and hard type. Problems to bend for the turtle deck.
Mine weighs 25 lbs. I have 2 Multiplex Royal servos/wing panel, 1 Multiplex Royal servo/elevator halves, 1 multiplex Royal servo/throttle and choke. and 1 Multiplex Jumbo servo in a pull/pull fashion on the rudder.
I use Fiber Optic servo extensions on all channels
1 receiver
1 receiver battery
1 servo battery
1 ignition battery

No thats too big, because here in Denmark it is very difficult to fly with planes over 20 kg`s. And I am only 13 years old. So alone getting the money for the extra will be very hard.

I HAVE BEEN FLYING ONE FOR THE LAST YEAR . THE PLANE BUILDS NICE BUT IS NOT AS LIGHT AS I HAD HOPED. MINE HAS A 3W 100 FOR POWER AND IT DRAGS IT AROUND VERY WELL CONCIDERING IT WEIGHS 27 LBS. THE PLANE TRACKS GREAT AND ROLLS VERY TIGHT. ITS BEST QUALITY IS ITS RUDDER AUTHORITY. IT CAN DO KNIFEDGE LOOPS EASILY AND LOW AND SLOW KNIFEDGE PASSES ARE VERY PREDICTABLE. THE PLANE IS SOMEWHAT 3D CAPABLE BUT NOT PERFORM ELEVATORS AND HARRIERS VERY WELL. IT WATERFALLS VERY NICE AND FLATSPINS GREAT TOO. EVEN THOUGH IT HAS A FAIRLY SMALL ELEVATOR IT STILL HAS ENOUGH AUTHORITY TO TORQUE ROLL VERY WELL. OVER ALL A GOOD PLANE FOR THE MONEY. IT DOSNT HAVE A GREAT WING LOADING AND NEEDS LAND AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED OR SHE WILL TIP STALL. I JUST BOUGHT A 35 % CARDEN EXTRA. ALTHOUGH THEY ARE BOTH THE SAME WEIGHT AND GENERAL SIZE THE CARDEN HAS EXACTLY 300 INCHES MORE IN THE WING AREA. THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO AND THE CARDEN WILL ELEVATOR AND HARRIER PERFECT. I WOULD RECOMEND THE GPM 330L TO ANYONE WANTING TO GET INTO GIANT AEROBATIC AIRPLANES AND I FORGOT TO MENTION IT DOES BEAUTIFULL ROLLING CIRCLES. HOPE THIS HELPS

I am about to build a Giant Extra 330l from GP, but I would like to installa DA 100.
Is it too big? (They raccomand max 85 cc)
Does anyone have allready tryied a DA 100 on this airplane.
Thank you for your thought.

RE: gp extra 330l
52%......woah.....2% over the limit here in England. I think thats a little too big, rather get a real Edge!
I think I'll get a big Ultimate one day, or Cap.

My 44% Cap is close, but steve hollands Zlin is a tad over 50% i think.
Please let me know if there is such a rule,

RE: gp extra 330l
no there's no such rule in the BMFA and im sure in the CAA aswell.
The only rule is 20kg cannot fly publically (might be at all now) without CAA approval.
Stuart Mackay's 47% revolution is a beast but its extremely light, not far over 20kg, yet his sukhoi of 35% is the same weight and loads smaller...
its all weight not size.

RE: gp extra 330l
Ok my mistake. But I think over half scale and its not a model anymore
Except for a model of the world smallest plane, the cri cri. Full scale would be pisss pisss easy.
52 percent, Edge, looks the dogs danglies for sure.

I have one built and flown with a DA-100. It weights 24.5 lbs. The only problem I have encountered so far, was the first canopy attachement ripped off the plane in its maiden flight and was completely destroyed. It seems that if you don't seal the rear of the cockpit, it will rip off every time. Great Planes wanted 85 dollars for a replacement canopy, so I found that the Wildhare 330LX canopy is almost an exact replacement, and I got it shipped for less than $30. I also ordered the Hanger 9 Extra canopy and now have two different cockpit designs, a single seater and a double seater. I now have about two gallons of flying time on it. It flat spins great! I can actually hover it in a flat spin!

RE: gp extra 330l
Just finished mine this week. Got a couple more tweaks and such to check out prior to her maiden. I put a 3W106B2 QS on her with Hitec 5945 Digitals, an Aero Protect dual pull pull rudder setup with Rocket City linkages, an EDR Fiber Optic Kill Switch, I4C Voltmeters, heavy duty extensions with parson clips and HD switches, 9channel Hitech 149DP receiver, Slimline Skywriter Smoke, a
24oz Fuel tank and 16oz Smoke tank, both mounted on CG. I wasn't crazy about the cockpit design so I changed it to something I could see inside and made it functional with dual instrument panels. Tach and engine indicators are on the front panel and voltage is on the rear panel.
Sunday...
I just maidened mine yesterday. Ran a tank of fuel through it to "shake it down". Checked all the connections and bolts, tweaked the 3W106 a little and took her up. I added 3 clicks of left and two clicks of up to trim it out then pulled a couple of vertical uplines to check engine thrust, which was right on the money. Did a knife to check the CG and then inverted to check the CG and it was right on the money. Checked the aleron differential I'd programmed in and the plane flew like it was on a string with no dip during rolls. VERY pleased with the performance. I then made a low pass and a friend in the pitts noticed I had an aleron linkage dangling and I brought it back around to land at once. The landing was spot on the money and very predictable. I probably forgot the screw in the aleron servo horn or didn't tighten it up completely. Other than that, I'll put the plane on the bench and go through it for anything else I can see that I may have missed and then get ready for further trimming flights.
Simply EXCELLENT aircraft. Looking forward to logging alot of time on her.
