Default Weston Groove or Capiche 50?

Well I thought i'd start the post seeing as these two models seem to be about the best on the market for AA.

I need to replace my H9 Funtana as i'm bored with it now (had about 120+ flights) and I can't decide what to buy.

The Groove seems very good and is an ARTF (I hate building) but it didn't seem as stable as the C50 at Sandown. I know Dave said it was a little nose heavy.

The Capiche on the other hand, well its a Capiche so it will be good but do I really want to build another kit. The C140 took me ages.

I have a Saito 72 to use

Your opinions will be much appreciated.

Thanks
Simon

i'll have the same problem when i spank mine one day

i'm torn ( bearing in mind i'll have one good wing ) between an own design new fuz for the Capiche and then making the wings two peice.
or a Groove.

i might know when i've had a play on a Groove.

Both looked to fly fairly similar at sandown. Due to too far forward C of G and a new plane/engine i would say that time will tell. I would only make a judgement after seeing the groove set up to the pilots liking with a few more flights under its belt. Liked the look of it though.

Probably best asking the chap whose flown both

The saito is a very good engine for the capiche though........

C140 took you ages?! You're the one one I know to have finished it!

For me the choice is simple - C50, but then I like building. Why don't you try the Groove, and let us know how it goes

Get both ! either has to be an improvement on the Funtana - dont like mine. You may need to wait a couple of months for the Groove to be available though..

I wonder how the Mini Hype will be on an OS25, i've got a spare 25 that I want to put in a plane, it will probably be like a cougar with a .25 a I spose

basically the mini hype uses the cougar wing, they have scaled down the fuz and tail to match the proportions of the wing, in other words it needs the same power as a cougar to perform.

mini hype on a os 25, if its a fp or la itll fly reasonably well with enough power for aerobatics but no sustained vertical.

if its a decent 25 like a fsr it might hold vertical for a bit longer but dont expect any 3d with anything less than a .30.

i believe the mini hype is being released instead of the jazz, i could be wrong on that, (it has happened)

Ah bugger it. I'm not in the mood, might as well Capiche done and pray I don't crash as Im skint, my fast charger is busted and people are taking the piss out of me just because I am going to get someone who is better than me to test fly my Capiche, I'm not stupid to crash a £250 plane because I wasn't sure how it will fly.

I will look into the Taco but I have my eye on a Wot2. (Yes Wot2, it was a one off scaled down Wot4 project)

The Mini Jazz won't be released. That was Alan seniors original idea....I suggested that launching an old design was not as strong a proposition as launching a smaller version of a newer one! hence Mini Hype. It is a scaled down Hype with a Cougar wing. I dont think the first factory prototype has dihedral....I may be wrong - but its being test flown now.

Philly....colour scheme OK for you on this one!!!

fuz blue needs a white brake, wing yellow needs a black brake as per fuz and blue a white brake on the wing between than and red

to be honest i prefered the Jazz looks wise esp if done like the posters, andddd... it already has a reputation/older pilots want an old design back they've not flown for a while ( ooh a Jazz, i used to have one of those as a kit, i miss that plane )
The Mini Hype looked ok ( don't like sewpt back UC on a funfly ) but the Jazz looks a bit better.

still would be interested in comparing it to my Cougar tho.. as a replacement. would be nice to have a Cougar style flyer that'll do more KE and patternish stuff too.
I could need a Cougar replacement soon... a wing at least lol

i thought i heard dehedrial, but i might have not, thought it was Alan srn that said it...

any chance any of the Weston range can come as a ARTC? it's ok having the first Cougar but pretty soon they all look the same, or two covering schemes at least

I will have one and make it electric. its perfect for the new PJS 3000 motor

just on a personal point of view, i demostrated the Jaz for years (in europe as well) and i got to say i hated it. the pitch yaw roll coupling was so bad it needed sticks in the corners to knife edge which was impossible to mix out.

good call with the mini hype, it WILL be a winner

I flew a Jazz for a couple of years, with modifications, and was told by some (maybe even you Dave cant recall) that it was the best flying Hype they had seen... it was still horrible... cant imagine what the stock one was like.!!!

Thank evans things have moved on !

Default RE: Weston Groove or Capiche 50?

i never did work out this one....
the Jazz must have been around for ages as a Weston Kit, then Malc had the Mini Jazz in the RCM&E.. so was the Jazz Malcoms idea to start off with anyway?

here you go Si, had a play with the Mini Hype pic.. would see what the red and blue slash on the fuz would look like if they swapped places, but i can't do that in MGI and can't be bothered to play with psp

just a few white and black lines added, UC swapped to standard legs.

pic 2, added more black lines to red areas and the clolours on the root. might be too busy now. dunno.
