Funtana 40 with os91fx instead of Saito 91?
Getting tired of my Saito 91, (keeps stalling) and I'm thinking of using an os91fx (weighs the same as the os61fx), but I am concerned it is too much motor for the plane to handle. Is anyone flying this set-up and what are your thoughts? Would I use an APC 14-4 or 15-4 prop? Or is it safer to stick with the os61fx?

the 91 fx will work fine use a apc 15/4w . a few of us have used it. i have seen the lighter side on the funtana and u can do 46 but won't admit it. and went to the saito 82 turns the apc 15/4w at 9300 rpm. how old is the saito

If I was going 2 stroke I'd go with the .91, had the .61FX and it was just enough to be fun but needed more.
Stick to a 4 pitch prop and flutter won't be a problem even if you have a "lead thumb."

RE: Funtana 40 with os91fx instead of Saito 91?
The Saito is fairly new, tuning it correctly is of course the best answer but I'm used to os motors being so easy and trouble free. The Saito is mounted under a cowl so access to the needle valve is scary with the motor running full throttle. I will extend the needle valve adjuster if I decide to keep it. The reason for this thread is I thumped the plane in (stalled motor) (minor damage) and broke the motor mounts so while I'm rebuilding it I'm thinking about the motor change.

I had the funtana with a 100 saito..they are tight motors and will stall out if running too rich on low end..BUT Saito makes THE best 4 stroke normally asperated...YS IS THE best performance motor but the 91..is rock solid once broken and tuned properly..good luck but loved the funtana with the 4 stroke..more torque..very quick spool up with same size prop as the 2 stroke because you don't need to get the rpm up.. good luck

There's another thread about a 91FX in a Funtana (my plane). Do a search on member Frankenthumb and Funtana. Great combination!
