"I am making motor mounts now to hang a 440 Cubic Inch Mopar big Block on mine.."

Better yet go with a 413 MAX WEDGE that way the carbs would be outside the cowl and look really cool!!

Buhahahah, good one. Most people dont know that ! You can hang those cross ram intakes on any Mopar Big Block though. So I can still have my way. My plane can hover, and pull out of a hover quite nice with a .91 OS on it. I just dont get this whole thing of overpowering and having to add weight. Keep them light.

This may seem obvious, but when a guy asks "what's the best engine for 3D" there is still a huge room for subjective argument.

One often needs to qualify EXACTLY what "good 3D" means to them. And also, the respondants could do well to qualify their answers in relation to what they've flown, and what they expect.

I've a Saito 180 on my F90. The only reason I have such a large motor is that the 150 and 180 are within an ounce or so in weight. IMO, the Saito 150 is perfect for the kind of flying I personally want to do. I agree I could have gone the YS 110 route, but seeing the tribulations a friend had with his YS engine scared me away. I love the ease of the Saitos too much.

My 3D background is mostly nimble 40 size profile planes, and very well powered small indoor electrics (ie shocky, e-sledge) so I want to see quick tumbles, instant pullout recovery from ANY attitude, only slightly slower in a larger airframe. If you dont' know what you're looking for, then perhaps the first question should be, what CAN this plane do with XXX engine compared to something else you DO know.

The original question didn't list a cost factor, but now it seems clear that $400 is too much for an engine for this plane in this thread. I tend to just save up for exactly what I want, and bite the bullet, but that's me. I realize kids, college, heat, and food sometimes take priority

I like your tailwheel assembly. What brand and size are your using?

It's a Sullivan 60 size.

Now i'am getting the info i want. I think i will put a bigblock chevy on mine...... i think the landing gear will hold just fine! LOL. Well from your inputs i have norrowed the engine down to a saito 100 or OS 160. Wow that is a big differnce. The whole thing is i dont want to spend alot of money on this plane. I throw all my money at my gas planes. I just want something cheap that i can fly when the feild isnt in the condition to put a 3000.00 plane out there.

Given your wants/requirements, I agree with that earlier post. If you're looking to go cheap, and you're considering the OS 1.60, the ST 2300 seems like the obvious choice to me. For $150 you're getting a motor that puts out at much power as a $269 OS 1.60.

I have a ST G90, and for a 2-stroke, I love it.

I've just ordered mine together with a Saito 150. I like the idea of mounting the batteries right up front within the cowl. 'cos my 40 needed a load of lead to balance it with the Saito 82. Hopefully they're in stock when my friend's in New York this weekend. 'Cos over hear that package would be twice the cost, but with his wife and friends it becomes a bargain.

How come the Saito 120 is not mentioned a lot? It seems it like the Saito 100, YS 110, or Saito 150/180. How would the Saito 120 work?

Saito 120 is way heavier than the Saito 100, so basically the HP difference is negated by the weight.

buenger_2000,

Cool your jets man. The worst way to get your question answered is by being snotty toward someone who posted good information - even if it wasn't information you needed. This board isn't stricly for your satisfaction. Other users look at this and may need to know about the 1.20. Maybe your intent wasn't to be snotty, but if I were thedak, I wouldn't appreciate your "tone". No worries, just play nice.

If I were you I would run a OS 50 SX with a 10x6 3 Blade set up. All I have to say is unlimited vertical. Good luck! buenger_2000

OK everyone, I'm sorry. I'm stationed over here in Korea and it just gets frustrating after a while you know... Not like I can go to the local hardware club or rc club to ask someone who would know. Just trying to figure out a setup for when I get home. Wife bought me this plane since I had soo much success with the Funtana 40...AS per the guy who said use
an OS 50 SX with a 10x6 3 blade prop....ARE you serious or being a smart ass??? I mean I'm serious...not trying to be a jerk here...I run an OS 50 in the little funtana

thanks

I have a YZ 140DZ that I bought for a pattern plane that I never bought. Would this be too big/heavy for the Funtana 90 or should I buy the Katana 140 for this engine. I saw the Purple Katana on a site that sells electric planes.

I currently have a Funtana 40 that I am building, and I am putting on the OS 70 Ultimate on it. I am now thinking that might not be enough for that plane. I am interested in 3D and not concerned about speed.

Thanks for the help. Mark

just my 2 cents but i have a 91sx heli c-spec engine on my f90. it weighs the same as a91fx give or take a couple grams but the power is awesome! i use 30% nitro heli fuel, 15x6 apc and the stock fx muffler(tuned muffler on the way). it weighs 9# with all 8411 servos and hovers at less than half throttle, unlimited vert and a blast to fly. it is a bit spendy at 350.00 but the power with no extra weight was worth it to me. i was not dissappointed. try it you might like it. it bolts right in the same holes as the 91fx with no mods except an extra vent line in the tank, and a shortshaft adapter for the prop. thats my 2 cents! happy landings

What is the .91SX turning the 15 x6? What tuned muffler are you getting? For the weight and money and if you are buying 30% heli get the YS 110.

the 91sx is turning the 15x6 apc at 12000 rpms and its still on the rich side. im getting the tower tuned muffler but its on backorder, ill let you guys know how many rpms it gains. the guys i fly with have had good luck with the tower mufflers on their 50hypers on their u-can-dos so i thought i would give it a try. besides i spent all my money on the engine LOL! fyi the 91sx is rated at 3.2hp. happy landings!!!!!!!!!!!

AHHHHHH come on guys you all have forgot bout the good ol' trusty powerful reliable kick butt MOKI 1.35 i test flew one balanced perfect and no lye the vertical was amazing one of the fastest i've seen lately and i think there cheap like 180-220$ i dont know exactly but it is insane vertical i would go with that a ys 110 or a st2300 my friend has and 1.60 and st2300 and the st2300 out turns it by about 600rpms ways just a hair less with a different muffler than a 1.60,trust me the moki was pretty impressive best combination i think
juz my 2cents,thankz Dean

X-tream Dean,

I had asked a question earlier above:

****

I have a YZ 140DZ that I bought for a pattern plane that I never bought. Would this be too big/heavy for the Funtana 90 or should I buy the Katana 140 for this engine. I saw the Purple Katana on a site that sells electric planes.

I currently have a Funtana 40 that I am building, and I am putting on the OS 70 Ultimate on it. I am now thinking that might not be enough for that plane. I am interested in 3D and not concerned about speed.

*****

Do you think the YS 140DZ is right for the Funtana 90? or should I buy the Katana 140?

Also, the Funtana 40 is a pretty big plane, and I was told the OS 70 ultimate would be correct for this for 3D. It seems that I should have gone to a OS91?

I could use your advice on these planes!!!

Thanks, Mark

My 90 Funtana has a YS 1.20 with an APC 16x6 in it and flies great, but also flies heavy. A YS 1.40 weighs the same and you can run the APC 18x6W on that motor and would have even more pullout than the 1.20. However I also flew a friend's 90-funtana with a YS 1.10 (same prop) and his plane was about 1lb lighter. The YS 1.10 turns the same prop about 300rpm less but with the lighter weight the plane is more maneuverable. I know Kyle did that video with the 1.20 which is very impressive! Tells me it comes down to the pilot in a big way. But if I had to do it all over again I would go back to the YS 1.10 for all out 3-D. It turns this plane into a real "floater" which makes all the 3-d maneuvers easier. Problem is good luck finding one... the word is out that is a hot motor.

Hey LOCKJAW-EXPRESS i know people who have had an 1.40 on there funtana and vertical is insane i think the 1.40 weighs about 4oz. more which is really nothing you can save that weight or more just goin to lithiums but since u already have the 1.40 put it on the funtana the extra power cant hurt just the weight. but like 4oz. is not a big deal i think you are gonna freak with the power i would re-inforce the box with triangle stock on the engine box and maybe run some carbon on the wood stringers right where the aft of the wing is just incase, it wont hurt to do it newayz if your not sure buy a quique yak that 1.40 is perfect i havent flown one yet but i heard there insane im not sure it 3-d's as good as the funtana but its imac legal and i know it will do precision aerobatics like no problem. oh yeahh about the funtana 40 after you get the funtana 90 goin ur gonna get rid of it LOL yea 70 isnt enough it would be good on a accel hobbys katana tho and a saito 100 on da funtana 40 well thats juz my 2centz
